Self-introduction letter items – Hobbies and special skills (cooking)

In this blog post, we will introduce sample sentences that reveal your personality and strengths through cooking in the hobbies and special skills section of a self-introduction letter.

I enjoy cooking

It was a time when I enjoyed inviting friends over to my house to eat food I had cooked myself. Unlike my other friends, whose repertoire of dishes was limited to fried eggs and ramen, I was skilled at cooking a variety of dishes in the oven, and I enjoyed the look of admiration in their eyes. Some of my friends even told me that my cooking was much better than their mothers’. Children at that age are always hungry, and I needed someone to show off my recipes and cooking skills, so the relationship between me and the children was a win-win situation.
In addition, many people found my cooking interesting and said that it was “fun.” I usually make dishes with combinations of ingredients that people have never heard of at home or in restaurants, so they look at them skeptically, wondering if they will taste good, but they are surprised to find that they are surprisingly delicious. When I heard that they tried my recipes at home, I felt proud that my ideas had a positive impact on them. From that moment on, I realized through my friends the joy that comes from my own creative ideas.

Practicing pastry and baking at a café

My hobby is baking. I majored in food science in high school and college, and I have been baking ever since, so I am most confident in this field. I don’t just enjoy the process of making and eating, I have also participated in competitions in this field and won awards in cooking contests. I have also submitted my creations to competitions for creative dessert recipes and received good reviews. Personally, I would like to further hone my pastry and baking skills, which are currently just a hobby, and eventually open my own dessert café.
I think opening a café would be a good way to express my individuality, as it would allow me to work independently from my company job. Therefore, I have obtained practical qualifications related to pastry and baking, and I am continuing to study to become more professional. Although I have received good reviews in competitions, I will continue to develop and research so that my products can be sold in stores. Ultimately, my goal is to create popular products based on my research and present them to the public under my own name.

Obtaining a chocolatier certification

I first became interested in drinks and desserts while running a café in college. Before that, I thought it was inappropriate for a man to frequent cafés. However, most of the new cafés that opened near my college were run by young men, which gave me a new perspective. In order to break away from my stereotypes, I frequently visited cafes, studied like everyone else, and even participated in beverage promotions. At the same time, I conducted research to analyze the profitability and sales strategies of cafes. On the other hand, I became interested in developing desserts and was attracted to the profession of chocolatier.
I didn’t plan to do it as a career, but I wanted to study chocolate design as an amateur chocolatier. I was more interested in making marketable products and selling them to the public than just eating chocolate myself. So I took a chocolatier certification course at a large café. Through this course, I was introduced to the world of chocolate, and I became interested in cooking as I acquired knowledge that rivaled my dessert research. Six months later, I quickly obtained my chocolatier certification and am now working as an amateur chocolatier. Currently, I only post my work on social media, but I believe there is room for growth in the future.

I am preparing to become a wine sommelier

While visiting various places in Canada, such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, I picked up a new hobby. What I learned was the field of wine sommelier. A friend I became close with at a language school introduced me to the field, saying that he himself was working as a sommelier in France. So, with my friend’s help, I visited bars whenever I had time and learned about being a sommelier through apprenticeship. Of course, I did not complete a formal training program, but I was able to gain a lot of knowledge from learning from a professional. My friend worked part-time at a bar and helped me gain valuable experience by teaching me about various wines. I was able to use the knowledge I gained at the bar when I worked at a restaurant, so it was a win-win situation.
After returning to South Korea, I didn’t have any hobbies, so I naturally decided to study to become a certified sommelier. I decided to make it my hobby and began studying to acquire the necessary knowledge to become a sommelier. Whenever I had questions or felt I was lacking in some area, I would email my friend from Korea, and we kept in touch. He was very kind and helped me a lot. I am now confident that I am almost ready for the exam. While working part-time at a bar, I was responsible for checking and managing the wine racks and recommending wines to customers. I think this will continue to be my hobby, and although I am only an amateur sommelier, I hope to grow little by little and make it a part of my retirement.

Searching for new desserts

When I was in college, I attended a university near Insadong in Seoul and spent my school days in the downtown area. While majoring in visual design, I enjoyed cultural activities such as exhibitions, plays, and art exhibitions, and through these activities, I wanted to see various examples of design. An essential part of enjoying this cultural life is gourmet food. In particular, there are many restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy gourmet food in the Insadong, Hyehwa Station, and Daehakro areas, so it became my hobby to visit these restaurants and cafes and post about them. I enjoyed visiting restaurants with my friends, eating desserts at cafes, taking pictures of them, and sharing them with others on social media. When I first started posting, not many people were interested. However, as time went by, more and more people started reading my posts and responding to them.
On the other hand, I also received offers from companies specializing in food reviews. They offered me a part-time job writing multiple posts and reviews. I personally only post about places that I think are really delicious, so I decided to turn down the offer. However, they kept contacting me, so I agreed to look for new desserts and discover new cafes. Since then, I have been running my own food blog on social media and other platforms, finding new desserts, taking photos, and posting my impressions and reviews to recommend them to others. As I continued this work, my hobby became finding new cafes and looking at their menus, and whenever I found a place with new desserts or cakes, I would rush there. So I have a lot of information in this area, and I can be a good source of recommendations for cafes and menus while interacting with many people at your company.

Eating three meals a day

My regular hobby is planning my daily diet. When I am busy with outside activities, I often skip breakfast and eat whatever I feel like for lunch. Then, I tend to eat a heavy, greasy dinner, which causes me to gain weight and makes it difficult to maintain a healthy diet. To solve this problem, I try to pay extra attention to my diet when I am busy with outside activities. I try to eat three meals a day without fail, and instead of just eating whatever I want, I plan my meals for the day in advance. I usually make adjustments the day before, but I’ve gotten into the habit of planning my meals for the week on Sundays. I make a plan for what I’m going to eat for the week and buy the ingredients I need at the supermarket.
Then, when the week starts, I cook according to my plan, starting with Monday, and eat the meals I’ve prepared. I usually eat breakfast and dinner at home, but for lunch, I often eat out or bring something with me. When I do, I try to pack a lunch box with the menu I have decided on, and if that is not possible, I go to a place that offers a variety of menu items so that I can socialize with others while still eating the food I have decided on. When choosing food outside, I try to avoid greasy or spicy foods, foods with a lot of seasonings, and highly processed foods as much as possible. I also try to avoid fried foods, foods that are heavily seasoned, and foods that contain a lot of spices, and I try to manage my diet according to my plan. In this way, my hobby is to take care of my diet, my health, and my plans by eating three meals a day.

A gourmet’s cooking skills are extraordinary

I am a self-proclaimed gourmet. When I was a college student, I studied cooking and obtained a Western cooking certificate. Through this, I learned about various foreign ingredients and cooking methods, and I also gained knowledge about cooking by reading cooking magazines. I learned how to use seasonings, which cooking tools are useful, and which ingredients go well together. As a result, I began to enjoy searching for and trying foreign foods, and as I gained knowledge about cooking, I realized the joy of gourmet food. After that, I could no longer go to just any restaurant or use any ingredients, and I became someone who enjoys cooking by bringing out the characteristics and flavors of the ingredients.
I started making dishes such as rice cooked with butter and white wine, toast with basil pesto, and pasta salad with fusilli, black olives, and vegetable broth, and I was able to enjoy meals that were on a completely different level from the simple dishes I had been making before. I realized that using professional cooking tools and ingredients elevates the level of gastronomy, and by serving dishes made with this knowledge to those around me, I was recognized as a self-taught chef. There were many advantages to improving my cooking skills, such as being able to easily prepare parties for people around me and enjoying my own meals more. And since I only eat food from homes where people are good at cooking, I developed a habit of seeking out restaurants that serve similar food, which has allowed me to learn about restaurants in my neighborhood. I also think that cooking is a good habit and hobby because I can share information about food with my friends and colleagues.

Enjoying tea ceremony with a pure heart

I used to have a quick temper, and I would easily get excited, make decisions, and regret them. Seeing this weakness in me, my mother recommended that I take up a new hobby: tea ceremony. I had never learned tea ceremony before, and it was something I was unfamiliar with, but I started attending tea ceremonies with my mother and eventually took it up as a hobby. At the time, my mother invited me to a tea ceremony class held by her women’s club, and I thought it would be a bit noisy because there would be many mothers gathered together. However, contrary to my preconceptions, the tea ceremony gathering was very quiet. It was a gathering where we sat neatly in our places, poured tea, and ate a natural meal. Quiet, soothing music played in the background, and everyone wore comfortable clothes and relaxed, which made me feel at ease.
Since that day, I have participated in tea ceremony gatherings, as well as other gatherings not organized by the mothers, and even held tea ceremony gatherings with my classmates. Our group, which consisted of high school students, held gatherings to calm our minds, and although it was a little difficult at first, I gradually got used to it. Through these activities, I learned about various types of tea leaves and discovered that there are procedures and etiquette for enjoying tea ceremony. At first glance, it seems like you just pour tea and drink it, but there is a specific order that must be followed during the process, and I learned that this brings out the flavor of the tea, so I started to follow it. The time spent relaxing my body and mind while drinking warm tea is so enjoyable that it has become addictive, and even now, no matter how busy I am, I make time to enjoy tea ceremony.

Making my own beer and experimenting with different types

I love beer. When I first started drinking in college, I tried many different types of alcohol, such as beer and soju, and I realized that beer was the drink that suited my taste the most. So, I decided to try making my own beer instead of buying it, and I bought the necessary equipment and ingredients and set up a home brewery. At first, my family members were opposed to my beer brewing venture. They criticized me for making alcohol at home and told me to open a beer shop if that was what I wanted to do. However, I continued my challenge with the idea that a hobby is something you do for your own enjoyment, and I started making draft beer by fermenting malt.
Surprisingly, the taste of my beer improved, and my family members began to support me instead of opposing me. They wanted to drink the beer I made and try it for themselves. My beer sold like hotcakes to my family, and word spread to my acquaintances and neighbors, who also began to enjoy my beer. I enjoyed this so much that I started making not only draft beer, but also cream beer, grapefruit beer, lemon beer, and even makgeolli when I had time. Word spread that I was a good brewer, and many of my friends started coming over to my house to try my beer. I want to continue my unique hobby and become a craft beer expert, expanding my knowledge.

Running a cooking blog because I am good at cooking

I am a good cook. I became interested in Korean and Western cooking when I was in school, and when I turned 20, I decided to try to get a certification. After obtaining the certification, I started recording my cooking process and taking photos to run a professional cooking blog, which I had been doing since college. I found it particularly rewarding to introduce my dishes to others and share recipes. So, I started posting about the process of making Korean and Western dishes, and now I run a popular cooking blog. During my college years, I worked hard to develop my blog and utilize it as a platform for my own business.
I enjoy blogging because I have made friends with people who share the same interests, and many people visit my blog, leave comments about my cooking, and tell me that my recipes have been helpful. I receive sponsorship from outside companies, so I don’t have to buy the ingredients myself, which allows me to freely create and try new recipes, which is helpful for my blog. On the other hand, I also earn a small income from advertising on my blog. In this way, blogging has become a way for me to share my hobby with others and has also become a useful habit that brings me other benefits. I will continue to provide useful information to people through sections such as making side dishes, making snacks, and making late-night snacks. In particular, the process of posting requires planning skills, so I think it is also related to practicing my planning skills.
