In this blog post, we will introduce how to write a personal statement that is essential when applying for a job in the plant industry. Learn how to effectively express your work experience and motivation for applying.
Your strengths and weaknesses
“I enjoy working with others and always have a smile on my face.”
My first strength is that I like working with others. I often read psychology books, and I learned that there are two types of personalities: extroverts and introverts. Extroverts are people who enjoy meeting and interacting with others to recharge their energy and find joy in life. They also like going out and taking on challenges, and feel stressed when they are not doing anything. On the other hand, introverts are completely the opposite; they feel stressed when they meet people. Reading that book changed my perspective on the world, and I realized that I am an extrovert. This is because I am the type of person who relaxes and learns a lot when meeting people. At the same time, I came to understand introverts. While studying mechanical engineering, I met many friends who were introverted. I found it difficult to understand them, and I wondered why they would easily break up with people. However, I realized that there are people like that in this world, and I came to understand and appreciate my introverted friends. I really enjoy teamwork, and I am the type of person who benefits greatly from studying with others, so I have many friends who study and work hard together. I also enjoyed teamwork, so I often participated in volunteer activities. Because I enjoyed being with people, I was told that I was like an old tree because I always had a smile on my face.
On the other hand, if I had to name one weakness, it would be that I tend to focus too much on one thing. I originally studied mechanical engineering, and no matter how much people praise me, once I start designing or working on an assignment, I tend to block out everything else and focus on that one thing. That’s why I didn’t think I could be a versatile person who can do many things at once. So, I developed a habit of planning. By making a plan for my work and organizing it by time, I was able to increase my efficiency and stay focused even when doing various tasks.
Activities inside and outside of school
“I spent four years steadily working to master PPT.”
I was always good at studying, but I wasn’t the type of kid who liked to stand in front of people and give presentations. However, people thought I was outgoing because I liked to hang out with others, so I was often asked to give presentations, and I would get nervous every time. But I thought that since I had to give presentations anyway, I wanted to make them fun, so I decided to master the skill. So, I joined a PowerPoint club and took business administration classes, and whenever I had the opportunity to make a PowerPoint presentation, I always volunteered. Thirty minutes before the presentation, my head would spin, and I would regret agreeing to do it, but as I practiced almost every other day, I gradually gained confidence and know-how, and my presentation skills improved. Four years later, I became someone who was not afraid to give presentations in front of any audience. Through my experience of winning an English presentation contest, giving a presentation in front of 1,000 people at an agricultural and marine product planning contest and winning an excellence award, and participating in a debate contest and winning second place nationwide, I gained confidence in my presentation skills and my ability to convey the message I want to convey. Through this experience, I learned that I can do anything if I try hard, and I gained confidence in my efforts.
Field of study and achievements
“Dreaming of plants.”
While studying mechanical engineering, I began to dream of plants. A plant is a building that is like a machine, supporting and becoming one with the machinery inside. Such buildings are the pillars of chemical power plants and nuclear power plants, which are the sources of energy in South Korea. I believed that plants were an essential industry for Korea. The reason for this was that they were the foundation of all industries. I thought that in a small country like Korea, plants needed to be designed with even greater precision and attention to detail. Therefore, I took courses mainly related to plants. I took many courses related to heat, such as thermodynamics and heat transfer, and in addition to my major courses, I also took design courses to build a solid foundation so that I could do my job properly when I started working. I also attended a private academy and did practical training to improve my Matlab and ANSYS program skills. I purchased textbooks that were not available in Korea from overseas websites and practiced on my own every day after work. When I joined a construction company as an intern, I requested to work on related tasks to further develop my skills, and I was so enthusiastic that I stayed at the site even after work.
Success Experience
“Communicating with people who were closed off.”
I believe that the most important thing in any job is people. That is why I always place importance on communicating with others. I once had an experience working in a factory. I needed to go to Europe and Japan for training to study plants, but I didn’t have money for a plane ticket. So, I decided to work at a factory, which was the place where I could earn the most money. I found a place that provided room and board so that I could work as much as possible, but that was a problem. When people found out that I had graduated from a good university, I was unintentionally bullied. Many of my coworkers thought that I was acting pretentious, and no matter what I did, they didn’t take me seriously. Because of this, my work began to suffer. However, I couldn’t give up on this job. I couldn’t give up on people, not just this job. So I worked harder, admitted when I was wrong, and tried to keep communicating even when I was ignored. I tried to talk to people even just once more. Then, the people who had ignored me at first began to recognize my efforts. The older employees started looking at me differently, and more and more people began to think kindly of me. Eventually, I made good friends and was able to communicate with people and do well at work. Through this experience, I was able to rethink human relationships and learn the perseverance to communicate with closed people.
Reason for applying
“I spent the past years dreaming of ○○, and I would like to say that I am ready.”
○○ is a place where everyone dreams of working. I think I may be one of those new employees. However, I believe that I dreamed more earnestly than anyone else. I applied for all of the ○○-related extracurricular activities, and although some were not successful, I explored ○○ through volunteer work and camps that I was able to participate in, and thought seriously about what kind of person I wanted to be. Whenever I heard news that ○○ was interested in various types of energy, not just the petroleum and refining industries, I looked for books on that energy and attended lectures to learn more. And whenever ○○ announced the type of talent they were looking for, I worked hard to become like them. I am a talented individual who has grown up with my sights set on ○○ Construction and no other company. Looking at the big rock face, I am convinced that my life and personality resemble those of the boy who said he looked like the face, and that I resemble ○○. I believe I am a well-prepared candidate. I look forward to working with you.
