In this blog post, we will introduce examples of sales experience that can be used in self-introduction letters for the service industry.
Growth
“I found my path by looking at my parents.”
My parents ran a business. They operated a factory that made clothes and clothing products, but in the middle of it, a manager embezzled money and ran away, causing a major crisis for the factory. All the factory’s funds were gone, and there was no way to pay the bills. My parents were deeply depressed for the first time in their lives, and our house was silent during that dark period. Even now, when I think back on that time, I feel like dark clouds filled the ceiling of our house.
However, it was people who turned that inescapable despair into hope. It was the people around us. My parents were known for their integrity. They were generous and always gave away any leftover products to others, and they shared delicious food with others. They maintained particularly transparent relationships with their business partners. They returned even 10 won if they received too much money, and they wanted to do business that was mutually beneficial, not just for profit. Because my parents never lost their kindness, they were able to recover with the help of their acquaintances. Seeing that miracle, I realized that the world is not a harsh place and that if I live honestly and reliably, someday the light will shine on me. Since then, I have always tried to be a reliable and honest person, and I have strived to build healthy relationships with my friends, romantic partners, seniors, juniors, and teachers. Perhaps because of these efforts, I am now surrounded by many people who trust me.
School life
“I learned about sales and the value of money.”
My biggest complaint during college was “fair pay.” In my young mind, I thought, “I’m doing all the work in the store, so why are the people who are just playing around getting paid too?” On top of that, I couldn’t earn much money as a college student, but I had a lot of expenses to cover, including tuition, living expenses, and books for my studies. I couldn’t bear to ask my parents, who worked so hard to support me, for any of that money. So I started looking for a part-time job, and after a lot of trial and error, I realized that the best part-time job for me was sales. I first learned about sales while working at a duty-free shop at the airport. Outside of working hours, I could earn more money when I reached certain sales targets, which allowed me to reach my financial goals. That was when I first realized the appeal of sales. Although I had to work desperately and interact with people, which was really hard, I was very happy to be rewarded for my efforts. By working diligently, I became the first among my peers to pay my own tuition and living expenses, and I think that was a time when I truly appreciated the value of money because I was spending the money I earned myself. That’s why I didn’t spend money recklessly, but spent it wisely, distinguishing between whether I was buying something because it was a necessity or a luxury. While I was in high school, I only knew about snacks and cosmetics, but now I have become sensitive to the prices and sales of various manufactured goods and other daily necessities. I was able to experience firsthand which channels were cheaper, which were more expensive, and what kind of service they provided by purchasing products through various channels.
Experience related to honesty
“I did not limit my responsibilities or shift responsibility to others.”
I was working part-time at a convenience store. At the time, I was in my fourth year of high school and couldn’t work full-time, so I worked at the convenience store from early morning until noon, then went to school. I worked diligently, so my boss liked me and gave me a lot of responsibility, and he even raised my salary. He showed me the afternoon part-time workers and asked me who I would like to hire. While interviewing them, I realized that one of them was in a very difficult situation. His parents had passed away, and he had to take care of his younger siblings, so I suggested that we hire him. However, that friend was so struggling that he ran away with the money collected at the convenience store on payday, and it was even discovered that he had stolen some items. My boss saw how discouraged I was and told me it wasn’t my fault, but I felt responsible because I had contributed to hiring him, so I offered to work extra hours for free to make up for the money he stole. The boss tried to dissuade me, but I couldn’t go against my conscience, so I took responsibility for my actions and continued working without making any excuses. It was hard work, but when I finally paid back all the money, I was overwhelmed with joy. I remember feeling very proud of myself for sticking to my motto of living a honest and reliable life.
Aspirations after joining the company
“I will become an employee who strives every minute and every second to become a professional.”
While preparing for employment, I read a book called “The Gift” during a difficult time. As soon as I opened the book, I wondered, “What is a gift?” When I closed the book, I realized that the gift is “the present moment.” Every person has the present moment. However, the book said that people who realize how great and precious that moment is, and above all, that it will soon pass, and that those moments will shape their future, can dream bigger dreams. I was very moved by that book. That’s why I decided to live in the “now” rather than the future. I made plans, took on challenges without distinguishing between what I could and couldn’t do, and always focused on living each moment to the fullest.
If I am hired by your company, I will become a “professional employee.” I will fill every minute and every second of my time with gratitude for the present moment and for the opportunity to work at ○○ Retail, the place I have always dreamed of working. I will strive to learn what I do not know, think about what I need to work on, and constantly ask myself what I need to improve. I will never stop working to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. Thank you very much.
