Sales job application letter: What kind of story will inspire trust?

In this blog post, we will introduce how to structure your story and effectively convey your experiences in a sales job application letter to gain trust.

Growth

My father always told me that a man must be able to take responsibility for himself in all aspects of life in order to become an adult. He always emphasized the importance of responsibility, from tidying up my room in the morning to taking care of my health and doing various other tasks on my own. Thanks to my father’s influence, I developed a sense of responsibility and independence at an early age. I have been exercising regularly since childhood, and after reaching a certain age, I started earning my own allowance, which helped me become more independent. Due to my parents’ business, our family’s financial situation was like a roller coaster, so I had to work part-time to earn money for school, but the sense of responsibility and independence I developed from a young age became a valuable asset when making decisions and moving forward in life. Nevertheless, because I had a relatively comfortable childhood, it was difficult for me to accept the frequent moves due to my parents’ business, and there were times when I couldn’t understand it. However, I think I was able to overcome that period by talking more with my parents and focusing on my own work.

School days

Until high school, I was very busy juggling my studies and part-time jobs. Of course, I used that as an excuse for not studying enough after school, and I was a little worried that my grades weren’t as good as I had hoped, but by literally “studying hard from my textbooks,” I was able to get into college without any problems. When I look at my friends, they say they had many memories and fun times in high school, but at that time, I was in the midst of puberty and couldn’t make up my mind, so I just lived day by day, struggling to get through each day. In fact, my memories of high school are limited to trying to stay focused in class and working part-time, so I feel a little regretful. However, I think that I am where I am today because I was able to get through that time, and I feel proud of myself back then, to the point where I want to pat myself on the back.
When I entered university, I became an adult, so I was able to find more stable part-time jobs and there were many things I could do. Through this process, my work became more stable, and I was able to concentrate more on my studies and try out the school activities I wanted to do. I had loved sports since I was a child, especially baseball, so I joined the university baseball team. Although I love sports, I didn’t have what it takes to be a great baseball player, so I thought about what I could do better for the team. I felt that I was good at understanding the flow of the game and the players, so I became the team coach. In sports, individual players’ abilities play a big role, but in team sports, teamwork and strategy determine the outcome of the game. Taking on such a responsible position was a big challenge and adventure for me. It was also a very enjoyable time and experience, as I didn’t have many opportunities to pursue my passions while working part-time.

Strengths and weaknesses

I am a goal-oriented person. I like to set clear goals and execute them, and my strength and advantage is that once I set a goal, I do my best to achieve it. I have a strong will to produce results no matter what, so although I have not always achieved the best results, I believe I have the perseverance and strength to at least reach my goals. Of course, because I tend to rush toward my goals, I sometimes tend to take other things less seriously. I am always trying to cover my shortcomings by setting priorities and working hard. My friends and those around me all say that I am a real man’s man. I think it’s because I have a strong image and am a little rough around the edges. I actually like this image of myself in some ways, because I think it includes qualities that men should traditionally have, such as a sense of responsibility and drive, which are necessary for getting things done and achieving results.

Career and other information

When I was in school, I worked part-time at a restaurant near my school for about two years. It was a long-term, stable job, so even though it was just a part-time job, I started to pay attention to the restaurant’s sales and customer management. When I had been working there for less than a year, the economy was in a slump and the weather wasn’t good, so sales dropped sharply. My boss was very worried, and I also became concerned about the stability of my part-time job. In fact, quitting and looking for another job was one option, but even though it was just a part-time job, I tend to work with a sense of ownership and affection, so I decided to try to find a way to overcome this situation. The restaurant I worked at was mostly quiet on Wednesdays and had more customers in the evening than during the day. So, I carefully observed the customers’ visiting patterns and suggested to my boss that we hold a discount event on days and at times when there were fewer customers. My boss had never tried such an event before and was a little skeptical about trying something new, but he believed in my strong determination and decided to give it a try, at least for a limited time. I distributed flyers for the event not only at school but also at nearby stores and on the streets, and surprisingly, from the first week, customers started to flock to the store during the discount hours. Thanks to this event, we were able to get through the off-season, and afterwards, the owner rewarded me with a salary equivalent to that of a regular employee. I believe that difficult situations should not be avoided, but rather faced head-on with a proactive attitude. Even though I was just a part-time student, it was because of this attitude that I was able to come up with one more suggestion and take action to achieve results.

Reason for applying

I spent my school days doing various part-time jobs, such as working at a restaurant, a research company, and sales support, and I wanted to think more seriously about my career path. I had a good opportunity to stay at school, so I started working as an office worker. The school work environment was good, and it was a good place to study quietly, but I felt a little stifled because I needed something more dynamic. I felt that I needed a field where I could work with a variety of people and in a variety of fields in order to fully utilize my abilities. I kept thinking about my experience working in sales at a pharmaceutical company, and I decided that sales was a better fit for me than office work, as it allowed me to look ahead and specialize. I don’t think sales is simply selling products. Explaining the quality of a product and appealing its features is basic, but ultimately, I think sales is about selling the mindset and service that the product provides. I believe that these small but significant differences are what move people and give a company a competitive edge. My sales experience is limited to a few months of part-time work, but I believe that my various part-time jobs and activities on and off campus have prepared me well to work with people and achieve my goals. I believe that XX is a well-established company in the sales industry. I want to work hard and achieve results so that I can live up to the reputation of my wonderful seniors and become a true salesperson.
