Can language study abroad experience be used persuasively in an insurance company application letter?

In this blog post, we will introduce strategies for effectively connecting language study abroad experience to insurance company application letters and expressing it persuasively.

Growth

“Forming relationships based on consideration and truth”
There is an example of a new challenge I took on during my growth. When I was in junior high school, I attended a regular junior high school as part of the compulsory education system. It was an ordinary school with ordinary teachers and a typical school culture, but I became dissatisfied with the atmosphere. No matter how much importance was placed on human rights, there was no change in the atmosphere of oppression by teachers toward students. Students’ opinions were cut off mid-sentence, and there was no way to influence school policies or rules. Even when parents tried to intervene, problems such as school lunch corruption and student council fees continued to arise. Seeing this reality, I became dissatisfied with school.
Eventually, rather than trying to improve the school, I decided to study in a new environment. So, when it was time to go to high school, I applied to an alternative high school instead of a regular high school. Alternative high schools offer a free curriculum rather than a standard one, and I was attracted by the fact that I could take elective classes. The teachers also encouraged students to think freely rather than suppressing them. Above all, I was very satisfied with the high level of transparency in the school’s management and budget.
It took some courage to decide to go to an alternative high school. Everyone else was considering regular high schools, private high schools, or foreign language high schools, so I felt like I was acting alone. However, I did not hesitate to take on a new challenge in a new environment. As a result, I am satisfied with the school, and I have made important friends in my life while getting along naturally with the other students. After graduating, I was able to decide to study basic mathematics at university, and it was my teachers and friends at school who always helped me along the way. That is why I am still grateful to my school for graduating.

Strengths and weaknesses

“I don’t take the easy way out.”
I like challenges. I have a tendency to keep trying new things and never stop challenging myself to gain new experiences. As a result, I often fail and go through trial and error more than people who don’t try anything. That’s why I sometimes regret choosing the difficult path. However, I still believe that I should not always take the easy way out. This is because a life of taking only the easy way out would mean that I would never gain any experience through overcoming challenges.
To put it simply, I had this experience. When I was a college student, I was determined to travel abroad at least once. However, I was busy during the semester, and even during the vacation, I was busy catching up on my studies, so I couldn’t find the time. On top of that, with expensive tuition, part-time jobs, and worries about finding a job, traveling abroad felt like a luxury. However, I made time so that I wouldn’t give up. At that time, I had exactly 1 million won, so I planned a trip to Europe with that money. I only had two weeks during the vacation, so I decided to travel with only 1 million won during that time.
It was a hastily made plan, and I was scared to go alone, but I ended up traveling abroad for a little over two weeks. When I was hungry, I would split my money to buy food, and when I needed to buy daily necessities, I would bargain hard. When I didn’t have money for transportation, I would walk or hitchhike. In this way, I traveled to France, England, Italy, and other countries, accomplishing something I never thought I could do. Of course, there were some countries where I only stopped by, but I think the fact that I went there was meaningful in itself. If I hadn’t taken on the challenge, I wouldn’t have had those memories, experiences, and values. But because I took on the challenge and chose the difficult path, I gained something that will stay with me forever.

Club activities

“Thinking about my family while volunteering at a kindergarten.”
When I was in college, there was a kindergarten near my school. They were looking for college students to volunteer as teachers at the kindergarten. Since it was just classroom assistance, it was possible to work without a separate early childhood education certificate. So, I participated in the children’s classes as a volunteer, and although I received a small token of appreciation, I did the work with little gain. Compared to other kindergartens, many of the children attending this kindergarten came from difficult family circumstances. Some were sick or had disabilities.
I worked in a class with children with disabilities, teaching them how to draw, do crafts, and make balloon art. I was particularly interested in art, so I was able to teach them how to draw in detail. I taught them how to draw caricatures, and even though they were kindergarteners and couldn’t draw very well, I was warmed by their admiration for my drawings. I also taught them balloon art and played the piano, which gave me the opportunity to communicate with the young children.
Volunteering at the kindergarten made me think again about the developmental stages of children of that age. In Korea, the term “family” mostly refers to the relationship between parents and children, and young children are very important members of the family. Older children can be sent to school, but younger children need to be looked after constantly, and even when they are sent to kindergarten, there are still many worries. When I was in college, I was studying mathematics, but I was also interested in insurance, so this experience made me rethink the human life cycle, the structure of the family, and the value of life and accident insurance.

Reason for applying

“I became passionate after studying abroad.”
I went to Canada to study abroad when I was about to graduate from college. When I decided to go to Canada, I didn’t really have a clear purpose for studying abroad. I went there with a sense of escape and confusion, faced with the obligation to find a job after graduation. However, as I went through the process of adapting to life there, my motivation and passion were rekindled, and I became interested in insurance. I had always been vaguely interested in insurance mathematics because I had studied probability and statistics, but this interest grew and became a passion.
So, after completing my study abroad program, I decided to jump right into the field based on what I had learned. I looked for insurance companies to start as an insurance sales representative, and I decided to apply to your company because of my training experience and language skills. In addition, I was impressed by your company’s culture of investing heavily in training when recruiting new sales representatives and providing generous support for the future of its employees. Therefore, I am prepared to grow as a member of the organization, thinking not only about myself but also about the future of the company. After joining the company, I will become a talented individual with both a mathematical mind and a financial mind, as I majored in mathematics. I believe that my aptitude and knowledge in these two fields alone are sufficient qualifications for success as a sales representative.
