How can I showcase my strengths in a resume for insurance product development?

In this blog post, we will show you how to write a resume that effectively highlights your strengths when applying for an insurance product development position based on insurance mathematics and practical training.

Growth

“A child who dreamed of becoming an opera singer takes on a new challenge.”
I was very interested in music and even wanted to major in vocal music, and I was also quite talented. Recognizing my talent, I received training from a vocal music major from an early age and attended an academy to practice vocal music since middle school. However, when I entered high school, I went through a severe voice change and, although I could continue vocal music, my voice and tone changed. I was depressed because I felt like I had lost my dream, but my voice became deeper and deeper, and I couldn’t produce the voice I originally had.
My parents were even more disappointed than I was and tried to comfort me. However, they quickly became positive and told me that I was still young and that there would be other paths for me, and that they would support me. So, in order not to disappoint my father and mother, I tried to find a new path rather than remain depressed. When I studied music, I specialized in harmony. Of course, to study harmony, you need a basic foundation in music and a good ear, but you also need mathematical ability. So, I naturally became interested in mathematics and began to study it, and at the same time, I became interested in mathematics.
Keeping this in mind, I devoted myself to studying mathematics. I studied mathematics even harder to erase any thoughts of singing and vocal music from my mind. As a result, by my second year of high school, I was able to get perfect scores on mock math exams, with only one or two questions wrong at most. I became known in my school for being good at math, and although I was not at the level of a science high school, I was able to enter a four-year math program and demonstrate my abilities. After entering university, I became interested in applied mathematics and financial mathematics, and I sought opportunities to find employment where I could utilize my skills. As a result, I am now able to complete insurance mathematics and apply to your company.

Strengths and weaknesses

“A personality that quickly overcomes difficulties”
I am very resilient. Even when I encounter difficult or unpleasant situations, I don’t dwell on them for long. I don’t try hard to forget things, they just fade away naturally, and even when difficult things happen, I don’t dwell on them. I just think that these things can happen and try to think rationally about how to solve the problem. Once I find a solution and solve the problem, I feel a sense of satisfaction and find it more rewarding than if there had been no problem at all.
Because I am so resilient, my thinking is also flexible, and I am not bound by a single way of thinking. For example, when I was in college, I was fired from my part-time job. It was a service job, and they told me that I didn’t seem to be suited for it and that I shouldn’t come in the next day. Normally, being treated like that would lower my self-esteem and hurt my pride, but I thought, “I think so too.” It is difficult for anyone to be suited to every type of work and demonstrate their talents in every field. I thought of it as another thing I had learned, so I didn’t think badly of it. Of course, I wondered if I had done something wrong when I was suddenly told I was being fired, but I didn’t dwell on it and recovered quickly. When I started working part-time in a different service industry, I received praise for my excellent work performance. So, I believe that when one door closes, another door opens, and I try not to dwell on the closed door.

Internal and external activities

“Learning insurance mathematics through insurance development training.”
When I went to college and studied mathematics, there were times when I felt skeptical about my major. Of course, reading algebra textbooks was beneficial because I was exposed to amazing theories that made me regret that I had only been solving problems until then. And I also had the experience of finding theories and problems that had seemed difficult in high school to be very easy after reading my college textbooks several times. Nevertheless, I still had doubts because there were many aspects of mathematics that were not related to actual work. Rather than applying mathematical theory in practice, it was something that I would need to study further in graduate school.
So, I wanted to study something more practical, and I took courses in financial mathematics and insurance mathematics. I found a place where I could take courses in these subjects, and it was very useful to study practical topics ranging from interest theory to insurance contract changes. Specifically, I tried to develop products by applying insurance mathematics based on survival distribution, life tables, life insurance, and life annuities. I enjoyed applying the mathematics I had studied to practical situations, such as calculating net premiums, using formulas for policy reserves, and calculating sales premiums.
I completed the training by learning about joint life insurance, multiple withdrawal models, and binary analysis. I gained a lot from the training, but the biggest benefit was that it helped me understand the practical aspects of the work, which will help me find a job. Even after the course ended, I continued to receive reference materials from the training center and tried my hand at developing specific products. Through this, I created a portfolio of new products that incorporated my own ideas. I submitted this portfolio when applying to your company, and I hope that you will give me a positive evaluation after reviewing my ideas and products.

Hobbies and special skills

“My hobbies are playing music and singing.”
I originally wanted to major in vocal music, so I have a keen interest and passion for music. That is why, even though I majored in mathematics and studied insurance accounting, I did not give up on my passion for what I love, distinguishing between what I am good at and what I enjoy doing. What I am good at is none other than the field of work for which I applied at your company. I am highly interested in creating new ideas for product development, applying mathematical knowledge to product development, and the financial field. In contrast, my passion for music is driven by my emotions rather than my head.
That is why I currently work part-time at a small theater while also playing music and singing. I can play acoustic and electric guitar, so I accompany myself on the guitar and sing songs that I have composed myself. I try to entertain the eyes and ears of people visiting cafes by singing along, and I find that process to be a source of happiness and enjoyment. Therefore, before applying to your company as a new employee, I mainly worked in the music field while preparing for employment. Even if I join your company, I plan to continue my hobby and balance my work and hobby. In addition, I heard that your company has a music and band club, and I would like to join it and continue playing in a band with my coworkers. I will strive to bring the energy I get from my hobbies to my work and have a positive impact on it, and I will become an energetic person who creates innovative products that change the trends in insurance.
