Automation Engineer Self-Introduction Letter: What Strengths Should New Graduates Highlight?

In this blog post, we will share some tips on how to write a self-introduction letter for new graduates applying for an automation engineer position and highlight some strengths that will appeal to hiring managers.

Background

“A child who hated books grew to love them.”
My parents are literature professors. Thanks to them, I had a very large study from a young age. It was filled with books by famous authors, and I naturally began reading them with my parents. However, unlike my younger sibling, I never developed a taste for reading. Whenever I tried to read a book, I found it tedious and boring. Both of my parents loved literature, so they couldn’t understand me. Then, hoping that I would learn something new, they enrolled me in a robot club in elementary school. From that moment on, I fell in love with books. I began to devour books related to machines. From then on, my dream was to become an engineer. My parents were against it, but I managed to convince them and applied to a vocational school to study mechanical engineering.
As I gained practical experience, I realized that engineering was very hard work. There was no room for even the slightest error when drawing blueprints, and I had many talented friends, so I had to study hard to keep up with them. In addition, computer technology was advancing rapidly, and if I didn’t keep up with the latest technology every day, I would quickly fall behind as an engineer. Some of my friends gave up on their studies and decided to become car engineers, but I had bigger dreams. I wanted to make the world a better place by controlling machines so that they could move on their own. As a result, I majored in mechanical engineering in college, graduated with good grades, and applied to LG Display.

School days

“An energetic person everywhere I go”
I am a very energetic person. People used to call me energetic or an energizer because I was always smiling. That was only natural because I was doing what I loved after finally convincing my parents to let me do it. However, when I am full of energy, I tend to focus too much on my work and forget to consider others. I realized this when I entered university and worked on team projects. In my senior year, I participated in an employment program called the Elite Program, where I worked on projects, prepared for interviews, and created PowerPoint presentations. While working with students from other departments, I realized that I was so absorbed in my work that I was causing trouble for others. So, I started to work on my personality with the friends I met at that time. As a result, I ranked first in the Elite Program and was honored to receive a prize. I think I learned how to control my energy through other people.

Strengths and weaknesses

“I have the determination to pursue what I love.”
A while back, I saw an actor named Joo Won on a variety show, and something he said really stuck with me. He said, “It’s not what you like that matters, but how you pursue what you like.” In other words, it’s not enough to just like something; you have to work hard for it and know how to do that. I think that’s absolutely right. I’ve seen many friends who are passionate about something but don’t know how to express it or work hard, and they end up frustrated. It’s similar to students who don’t know how to study and therefore don’t study. Fortunately, thanks to my efforts in high school, I know how to work hard. I know how to work hard to achieve my dreams. I believe that my passion and knowing how to work hard are my greatest strengths.
On the other hand, as I mentioned earlier, I can sometimes be overly passionate. However, I know that when that happens, I need to look at other people and refine my personality. I believe that LG Display has many wonderful senior colleagues and supervisors. I will learn from them and strive to become someone who can further improve the company’s atmosphere.

Hobbies and special skills

“Become an engineer with imagination.”
My hobby is reading. My parents love books and are very close to them, so I naturally developed a habit of reading. At first, I didn’t like reading books related to literature, but I gradually got into books related to machinery, and since then I have been reading a wide variety of books. The most impressive book I have read recently is by Bernard Werber. I reread the book “The Secret Life of Trees.” Reading it allowed me to expand my imagination. I don’t want to be just someone who works with machines; I want to be an engineer who works with machines but also has imagination and dreams. I will work hard to become that kind of person.

Career (Experience)

“A single study abroad experience changed my mindset”
I once studied abroad in the Netherlands for a year. At the time, I didn’t know anything about the Netherlands, but I wanted to learn a little more English and take a break from my busy life, so I went there. And that experience completely changed my way of thinking. The Netherlands is a place that is completely different from Japan. The population is small, the land is vast, and there are many plains. Everything I had been struggling with in Korea didn’t make sense there. It took an hour to drive to the nearest grocery store, and every morning I woke up to endless meadows. The people were also very different. Unlike in Korea, where it’s easy to get to know people around you, many people in the Netherlands were very shy, so I had to be careful about how I acted. Through my experience there, I learned how to think flexibly. Seeing different ways of thinking also broadened my own thinking. I did things that I thought I couldn’t do, such as going to bed at 2 a.m. and getting up at 4 a.m. to study, staying up all night to prepare PowerPoint presentations, and struggling with English all day long.
After returning, I prepared for a job program and immediately applied for this position. Although I do not have any relevant work experience, I will work hard with the enthusiasm of a new employee. I am ready to do anything and learn anything because I am an open-minded person. I want to nurture and fulfill my dreams at LG.

Reason for applying and aspirations

“Be humble and passionate.”
Since high school, my only dream has been to work with machines. I am confident that I can achieve this dream with passion. I want to pour all of my abilities into LG, including the determination I showed in persuading my parents in high school, the efforts I made while studying abroad in college, and my willingness to always learn by reading books. I also want to learn a lot. I want to humbly accept and learn from whatever my superiors say. I also want to live passionately. I want to find myself thinking about machines every night. I will live with a passion for learning and working. I hope you will see me as a new employee with the right mindset. Thank you very much.
