Trade/Overseas Sales Self-Introduction Letter: What Do Recruiters Really Look For?

In this blog post, we will share the key elements of a self-introduction letter that recruiters actually look for when hiring for trade and overseas sales positions, along with tips on how to write one.

Growth

When I was a child, my father often traveled abroad for work, and he seemed like a stranger to me, even a little scary. He was always so busy that he hardly ever came home, and when he did, he would just sleep or rest for a short while. Watching my father’s back, I felt a sense of distance and wariness, as if he were a stranger and not my family. This came out as a natural rejection whenever my father returned from a business trip and tried to hug me, which sometimes made my parents sad. I knew that my father’s busy schedule was his way of taking care of my mother and me, but I was too young to fully understand and appreciate it.
My father realized that if things continued this way, the emotional gap between us would only widen, so he decided to communicate with me constantly through emails and letters. When I first found a letter my father had left on my bedside table, I was a little confused and didn’t know how to respond, but as I gradually began to express my feelings, I was able to develop a more mature attitude toward my father. I was always tired at home, so I was cautious about talking to my father, and I gradually gave up on communicating with him, but through his letters, I was able to calmly explain what I wanted to say after careful consideration. In addition, the small gifts my father chose for me with me in mind and the stories behind them that I learned through his letters gradually softened my guard and helped me to truly understand my father.

School life

I realized that if I gave up communication due to the constraints of reality, it would only widen the gap between us, so I made an effort to create opportunities for sincere communication through my own efforts. Even in blood relations, where blood is thicker than water, without self-will, there will only be endless conflict, so I couldn’t even imagine how easy it would be for friends to drift apart and fall out. I felt sorry for my friends who were busy with work and growing apart from their children, and I engraved my father’s words deep in my heart, saying that he never wanted to have such a distant relationship with me. I also made an effort to actively reach out to people with whom I wanted to have a close relationship.
In the past, I was the type of person who would turn away if I thought something didn’t suit me based on momentary judgments and prejudices, but as a result of my efforts to not give up easily on the people around me and to build lasting friendships, I was able to form truly stable relationships. And even if we find things that don’t fit or points of disagreement, I’ve come to believe that human relationships are about reaching the right balance through mutual agreement. There are almost no soulmate relationships that are so perfect that you think, “This is a relationship destined by heaven,” as soon as you meet someone. because it is important to sit down at the negotiating table, modify your demands according to each other’s needs, explore things you enjoy doing together, and strive to maintain a more harmonious relationship. This means making an effort to adjust and accommodate each other’s differences and gaps.

Strengths and weaknesses

I am the type of person who never gives up, even when faced with challenges that seem difficult or impossible. Before taking action, I try not to think negatively, such as “It will be difficult” or “I can’t do it,” based on my own preconceptions. This is because it is impossible to find complete answers to everything in the world in the mind of a single human being. We can make slight predictions and draw rough outlines, but we cannot simulate success or failure with complete accuracy. Furthermore, even challenges with the same potential can be greatly influenced by how a person approaches them. Humans are beings that can only move when their bodies and minds are in harmony, and if either one is out of balance, we lose our equilibrium.
When my body has faced difficulties, I have always responded calmly to the many challenges I have encountered in my life with the determination to strengthen my mind and restore balance. At times, I have been told that I am “reckless” or “unrealistic,” but I have the discernment to avoid impossible challenges, and I intend to face the many hardships of the world with even greater determination.

Values

I believe that life is enriched by the existence of diversity that does not necessarily fit perfectly with oneself. Today, we are accustomed to a system of cultivating crops and fruits by selecting only varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases and suitable for large-scale agriculture. This system is ideal for achieving high production volumes, but it is somewhat disadvantageous when it comes to pursuing diversity in taste and the ecology of multiple varieties. This is because when pests attack the varieties that we have selected for large-scale agricultural production, we are helpless to stop them.
When we focus all our efforts on what we believe to be the optimal method, the lack of diversity often prevents us from responding quickly to changes, resulting in significant losses. Therefore, we need to pay attention to mutations, anomalies, and unique characteristics, and nurture them like grafting new branches onto a tree to make it grow even more luxuriant.

Motivation and future aspirations

When I was a child, I was estranged from my father, who was often away on business trips, and I remember never really trying to bridge the gap between us. My father, who was worried about my distant relationship with him, came up with a solution: communicating through writing and giving me gifts. Through this, I realized that my father’s desire to share his thoughts with me overcame the constraints of his busy life, and I learned that it is possible to convey your feelings through any form of effort, and that it is most important to approach people with sincerity. I felt that this was closely related to your company’s philosophy of actively expressing a desire to build friendly relationships with others, rather than simply pursuing profit, which is why I decided to apply.
If I am given the opportunity to work at your company, I will strive to refine my mindset so that I can be more active in my new environment and work, transforming even my vague anxiety about the unknown into a sense of adventure and curiosity about new areas. I will refrain from being easily frightened by things that have not yet happened, and I will strive to prove that I can fulfill my role as a complete member of the company. I will work tirelessly to improve myself and become closer to perfection.
