In this blog post, we will introduce the key elements that must be included in your self-introduction letter when applying for a research position at SKC Haas, as well as specific strategies for writing a persuasive letter.
Growth process
“Do everything with sincerity, even the smallest things!”
The family motto of my household is “Do everything with sincerity, even the smallest things.”
My father chose this as our family motto to encourage us to give our best effort to everything we do, no matter how small, and to be satisfied with the results. This is not just a dead phrase hanging on the wall, but has become our family’s attitude toward life. Always keeping this family motto in mind, I have always done my best in everything I do so that I have no regrets, and as a result, I have always received good evaluations in school and at my part-time jobs.
My father, who was an engineer at a manufacturing company, had an accident at work in which his left ring finger was severed. He took some time off work to recover, but he did not give up. My father’s goal was to run his own manufacturing company, even if it was small. He said that his injured finger would not be a major obstacle to his work, and he did not give up on his dream, but kept moving forward. Four years later, my father established the company he had been aiming for and started running it as its representative.
Watching my father, I learned that although we encounter many unexpected obstacles in life, our attitude toward them can change the course of our lives. Even if you are not an expert, you know how important fingers are to an engineer. But my father did not care and accepted the fact that he had nine fingers as a blessing.
My father taught me that if you live a purposeful life and work hard toward your goals, even in small things, no obstacle can stop you.
Personality and strengths
“Responsibility, perseverance, and harmony!”
I have a well-rounded personality and get along well with others. When we have a common goal but different opinions, I listen to others and coordinate to reach a consensus. I am good at resolving conflicts, and when work is not progressing, I take the initiative to move things forward, but I also act as a mediator, reaching agreements through dialogue with team members.
I have a clear sense of purpose and am confident in what I want to do. I am always cautious when making decisions, but once I am confident, I act decisively. I make rational judgments and careful decisions, and I take responsibility for the tasks assigned to me until they are completed.
I am responsible, focused, and persistent. Watching my father, I learned to do my best in everything I do, no matter how small, and to never give up until I achieve my goal. When working on a joint research project, there are many failures and deadlines, and when progress is slow, there are conflicts among team members and many moments when I want to give up. However, as it was my job, I took responsibility and continued my research, and even when I failed, I got back up and persevered toward the goal. As a result, we were able to successfully complete the joint research project.
Life motto
“Keep challenging yourself until you can’t fail anymore!”
I am not afraid of challenges or failure. Taking on challenges means having goals in life and the courage to take action to achieve them. I also believe that life is about learning and growing through failure. If you give up the moment you fail, thinking, “I can’t do it,” then you will never succeed. Through my short but passionate life, I have learned that the path to success is to analyze step by step why you failed, what mistakes you made, and what variables you did not anticipate, and then try again.
Research
“Flexible display research!”
Flexible displays are intended to create new shapes of devices that can be folded or bent, but they also need to evolve in terms of thickness, manufacturing cost, and strength for the advancement of the display itself.
In fact, a display that plays videos while fluttering inside a thin plastic film was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA, but the display products currently offered by companies have not yet developed to the level desired by consumers, such as being able to bend and fold at will.
The reason is that there is no suitable material that can realistically replace glass. For now, plastic can be used instead of glass to create displays that are unbreakable and bendable. However, plastic does not have the same shielding properties as glass. Plastic allows air and moisture to pass through. In order for plastic to block air and moisture to the same level as glass while maintaining adequate strength, it must be coated with an inorganic material.
This requires plastic manufacturing technology that is both break-resistant and freely moldable, but the plastics developed to date are not as hard as glass and are difficult to produce at the same price point. When OLED devices are placed on top and baked, plastic can be seen to be more heat-resistant than glass.
However, when flexible displays evolve to the point where they can be folded, even plastic will not be easy to use. Various materials are being considered for the folding parts, as they are subject to very strong stress. Thin silicon can be stretched sufficiently and is therefore being considered as a material for foldable displays.
I would like to invest my abilities and talents in developing displays that have the appropriate materials, necessary strength, and price competitiveness in this field until the day when flexible displays become as cheap as paper and can be easily used in various places.
In order for actual display devices to be flexible enough to bend to a certain degree, the substrates and other components must also be flexible, so related technologies must be continuously developed and improved.
Motivation and aspirations
“A researcher with analytical and creative skills!”
SKC Haas is a company with global competitiveness and unlimited growth potential based on its excellent quality and proactive customer service. I believe that SKC Haas, which is promoting the display materials industry, will be a leader in the future market in this field. I applied to your company because I want to be a member of a company that will grow together with such a company.
For researchers, it is very important to not only be able to conduct experiments, but also to have the ability to analyze those experiments. I have studied various analytical instruments and can obtain the necessary research results by using the right instrument for the right application.
I believe that analyzing research trends through literature surveys of existing papers and patents is also very important for successful research. I conduct literature surveys of various papers and patents, and organize the materials I read by type and field so that I can easily refer to them when necessary.
I have also been keeping research notes since I was in college. By carefully recording everything from my plans before starting research to the progress of each stage and the causes and results of errors, I can reduce experimental errors, and these notes serve as a good reference when starting new research.
If I become a member of your company, I will enjoy my research and become a researcher who takes initiative in finding work to do. I will approach my work and research creatively, and with clear plans and goals, I will produce successful results and contribute to the growth of the company.
