What do HR managers in the shipbuilding and steel industries really look for in a cover letter?

In this blog post, we will focus on the factors that HR managers in the shipbuilding and steel industries actually consider important in cover letters and the common characteristics of applicants who stand out.

Background

When I was a child, my father, who worked in the construction industry, was my role model. When I followed my mother to visit my father at work, I was always impressed by how he commanded the site with the trust and respect of everyone around him. My father had a masculine appearance and charisma, and although he was strict with people, he always showed human consideration and kindness. He was a leader who knew how to lead many people gently with the right balance of discipline and encouragement. Even though he could have risen to a position where he could have worked relatively comfortably with his years of experience, he was so energetic and passionate that he felt he could fully demonstrate his abilities by going out to the field, and he was always busy running around here and there. My mother often scolded him, saying, “You never know when an accident might happen, yet you drive so fast,” but I knew better than anyone else that she respected and loved him more than anyone else.
My father told me that he would support and invest in anything I wanted to do. He had many dreams that he wanted to achieve, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he had no choice but to follow his current path. He told me that he wanted to actively support me so that I could achieve my dreams. However, my role model since childhood has been my father, and when I thought about people I wanted to be like or my future aspirations, I always imagined my father working on a construction site. I even drew myself wearing the same safety helmet as him, showing how much I wanted to work in the construction industry like him.

School life

Whenever I went on career exploration trips or visited companies I wanted to work for at school, I would look for construction-related jobs, as I had a strong desire to pursue my childhood dream. My father thought that I was just admiring his reliable appearance and wanted to do the same thing, but as I grew older and my desire remained unchanged, he became somewhat impressed and proud of me. He must have felt very proud that my passion, which he thought was just a momentary impulse, had continued for so long and that I was following in his footsteps. My father repeatedly emphasized that his job was very difficult and physically demanding, but he was very proud of my desire to follow in his footsteps, and he would casually mention this to people around him.
Some people said that I was just taking advantage of the path my father had paved for me, but I was determined to work harder than anyone else to prove them wrong. My aspiration was clearly influenced by my father, and I believed that I had to prove it through my own sincere efforts, not just through pure admiration or ambition, but also to show that it was not a selfish desire to live a more comfortable life with my father’s help. I admired and respected my father, but rather than simply accepting his help and living an easy life, I always tried my best to carve out my own future so that I could stand beside him as a proud worker in his own right.

Strengths and weaknesses

I am independent, take pride in my work, and always strive to do my best. Following in my father’s footsteps in the construction industry, I was concerned that I might just be taking advantage of my father’s position in the industry, but I believed that I had to work hard to prove myself. No words, reasons, or excuses could overcome that reality, so I believed that my efforts to walk my own path without relying on my father’s help would prove my sincerity. This belief became the driving force that enabled me to face and overcome countless difficulties and climb to greater heights.
Some people advised me that it would be better to enjoy the privileges I was born with. People have different innate abilities and backgrounds, so I told them that I should be grateful for the family environment I was given and use it as a resource, and that I should not be ashamed to accept their help. However, I wanted to be a child who could always hold my head high, if only to avoid disgracing my father’s name.

Outlook on life

I believe that ultimately, we are responsible for shaping our own lives. Today, we can farm more easily than in the past thanks to the wisdom of our ancestors and technological advances that have led to the development of various agricultural machines, but ultimately, crops cannot grow without our own efforts and labor. It is important to use the environment and knowledge created by previous generations to build a better future, but the core driving force must come from our own sweat and passion.
I have boundless energy and vitality, and I want to be a member of society who can achieve solid results and performance by constantly moving forward and pursuing my own achievements so that I can stand proudly before anyone. This is because it is the most important virtue that I should strive for in my life.

Motivation for applying and aspirations

My father, who led everyone on construction sites and was a role model for me, was the decisive factor in my decision to pursue a career in the construction industry. Because of this, people around me expected that I would be able to pave my way more easily thanks to my father’s influence, but I wanted to achieve results through my own efforts, not through the influence of others, so I was always careful not to take advantage of my natural environment or luck. I joined your company because it has a strict corporate culture based on clear standards that are not influenced by personal connections.
If I am hired by your company, I will work hard to prove my abilities through my own efforts and qualifications, without relying on anyone else’s help or influence. I was fascinated by my father, who charismatically led many people and independently directed construction sites, and I did not want to rely on power to enjoy privileges unrelated to my actual abilities. I want to follow in my father’s footsteps, who has worked hard all his life to make a mark in his field, and I will always strive to do my best in my work.
