In this blog post, we will introduce experiences that can be effectively incorporated into your self-introduction letter when applying for a financial position, as well as writing strategies to make it more convincing.
Growth
When I was a child, my uncle, who owned a large ship, always impressed me as a tough and cool “man of the sea.” I remember how excited I was when my parents and I would occasionally board the passenger ship that my uncle would drive, feeling the ship’s movement as it cut through the waves. I usually get seasick easily, but strangely, when I was on a ship, my joy seemed to override my physical limitations, and I was always able to enjoy and take in my surroundings with a clear and refreshed mind. Perhaps it was because I didn’t have the opportunity to see my uncle often unless I was with my parents, so I felt a sense of obligation to enjoy the moment to the fullest. However, what is certain is that this experience gave me a rich romanticism about the sea and allowed me to grow up as a child who enjoyed marine literature, dramas, movies, and miniature models as hobbies.
At one point, I wanted to become a fisherman, then a captain of a passenger ship like my uncle, or a navigator, or even a pirate. All of my childhood dreams were centered around the sea. When I saw the lives of sailors who had to obey the will of God and sometimes face life-threatening crises at sea, I felt my blood boil with excitement, wanting to join them. Rather than maintaining a realistic view of the sea, my dream was reconstructed with rough waves and storms, and men fighting bravely against the sea, which served as the driving force that kept me focused on my dream for a long time.
School life
I still had a romantic view of the sea, but as my seasickness gradually worsened, I realized that I would not be able to work in a profession that would take me out to sea, so I began to gradually change my career path. My dream had always been to be a sailor who could fight fearlessly against the raging waves, but my severe seasickness was getting worse every day, and I couldn’t even ride a boat, which I loved so much. I was able to take medication and go out on a few occasions, but my condition was clearly deteriorating, and I knew that I would never be able to do a job that required considerable physical strength. So, I had to learn to accept the reality of my situation and compromise.
However, my dream of working in a field related to ships provided me with a stepping stone to gradually adjust my goals toward transportation and shipping logistics. Even though I couldn’t go out to sea myself, I was convinced that my life would be a little better if I chose a path that would allow me to indirectly experience the sea. Even after my dream of going to sea was dashed, I continued to enjoy and pursue content that allowed me to experience the salt air and rough waves indirectly through marine literature, movies, and dramas, which allowed me to achieve the excitement that I could not fulfill in reality. My romanticism about the sea and ships, which was the most decisive factor in determining my career path, has also been an important indicator that has enabled me to pursue my current path. It may seem a little funny to others, but it was definitely an important dream for me.
Strengths and weaknesses
I am a person who strives to align my innate abilities with my goals and create rich synergies. People sometimes say that you can’t do everything you want to do in life, and that as you get older, you have to give up some of your dreams and learn to settle for reality. However, I believe that if you can align your goals with your abilities and find a career path that suits you, you will be able to achieve the best results. It was part of this effort that I never gave up on my childhood dream of the sea and ships, and used it as a guidepost in deciding my career path. Some may say that I am just a spoiled child who cannot escape his childhood dreams, but for me, it was extremely important to realize a dream that I had held for so long.
Some may laugh at my efforts as “childish,” but it is because of that childish determination that I am able to pursue my current career path with a stronger will and aptitude than anyone else. Rather than deciding on a career for boring reasons such as “it’s what I’m best at” or “it’s socially acceptable,” I am proud that I chose a field that I have been most honest with myself about for the longest time.
Life philosophy
I believe that everyone should be able to realize their deepest desires. Our society is becoming increasingly difficult, and people are being pressured to pursue reality rather than dreams. However, in order to add a little luster to our harsh lives, it is very important to choose what our hearts truly desire. In a world where everyone’s emotions are drying up, if we choose to dry up our own hearts, we will all inevitably die of thirst.
When I chose my current career path, I was told that “relying on childhood fantasies is proof that you haven’t grown up properly,” but I didn’t let myself be swayed by the opinions of others and steadfastly chose my own path. As a result, I was able to actively develop my abilities in an environment where I am more satisfied than anyone else.
Motivation for applying and aspirations after joining the company
I admired my uncle, who operated a passenger ship, and dreamed of becoming a “man of the sea” who battles the rough waves. However, I was unable to overcome the severe seasickness I had suffered since childhood, and I was forced to compromise with reality. However, I never wanted to forget my childhood dream, so I pursued a career related to shipping in any way I could, hoping to find a way to work with passion. Your company has built a network of ports and logistics infrastructure and operates a business that spans the world’s oceans, which is what inspires me the most, so I decided to apply for this opportunity.
If I am given the opportunity to realize my dream, even indirectly, at your company, I will do my best in my assigned duties while always watching with the excitement of a young boy as your company weaves a bright future across the blue sea, and I sincerely hope to share that joy with you. Although I am unable to board a ship and feel the waves to fulfill my dream of becoming a sailor, I would be more than satisfied if I could achieve the same sense of accomplishment by working hard at your company.
