In this blog post, we will introduce ways to effectively incorporate your actual equipment maintenance experience into your cover letter and points to emphasize in technical positions.
Growth
My father often traveled abroad for business, and I had always looked up to him since I was a child. In particular, my father was a world-renowned engineer, which made me very proud. However, when my father was transferred to Canada, I decided to study abroad in Canada during high school. It was a sudden decision, and I was very worried because I was not prepared at all. My mother was also worried that I would not be able to adapt to a strange country as a high school student. However, my father was adamant that the family should always be together. With only a month left before my departure, my father told me, “The world is a big place. If you are afraid of change, you cannot become a great person. Be brave.” His words gave me courage, and I made up my mind to study abroad. Once I made up my mind, studying English, which I had found difficult and tedious, became much more interesting. I guess it was because English was essential for me to survive in a foreign country.
I learned a lot through my study abroad experience in Canada. At first, I struggled a lot with English. I became passive at school, and life was no fun. Whenever I felt like returning to Korea, I remembered my father’s advice. With renewed passion, confidence, and determination to follow in my father’s footsteps, I took on the challenge of mechanical engineering, and I was able to succeed. I graduated from college with honors and was able to maintain the highest grades even after entering graduate school. At that time, I realized that if I wanted to do something, there was nothing I couldn’t achieve. I learned from experience that if you strive to overcome obstacles with determination, a way will open up. Through this process, I learned that in order to get what I want, I need to work hard, so I am working hard with determination to join your company.
School days
When I was in elementary school, I loved playing with my friends so much that it was my only joy in life. Of course, I didn’t think about studying except during school hours. I guess that’s why my grades weren’t bad. When I entered junior high school, my father encouraged me to study English, but I didn’t listen to him and continued to enjoy hanging out with my friends. Then, when I entered high school, I was in for a big surprise. I had no idea that I would be going to a foreign country called Canada. However, I studied hard as always, gained confidence in my abilities, and eventually was able to communicate without any problems. I went on to college and majored in mechanical engineering. At college, I learned about mechanical engineering records and management processes, as well as methods for efficient production management and quality control. My professor noticed my sincere attitude toward learning and introduced me to an opportunity to work in the school’s management team. As a student, my job was not so much professional work as learning the work processes and doing overtime, but I was able to learn about machine management. I also valued the network I built with my colleagues and began to learn from them. I believe that the knowledge I gained during this time helped me successfully complete my major project, “Mechanical Engineering Management Strategy Analysis Project.” I believe that the knowledge I gained in college and the practical knowledge I gained through my work experience will be very helpful in performing my duties at your company.
Strengths and weaknesses
I do my best in everything I do. I believe that a sincere attitude is essential to doing your best. During my study abroad, I learned that if you want something badly enough, you can achieve it, so I always try to remember this. In addition, I always live with a willingness to learn. I believe that there is something to learn from any environment and any person. I think my talent is my ability to quickly catch on to that and make it my own. Furthermore, I was able to learn the importance of communication while living with people from different cultures. This is because misunderstandings can arise if you don’t communicate. That’s why I try not to judge others rashly, but to get to know them through communication and interaction. I think this personality trait has helped me build trust with those around me.
On the other hand, I always try to see the good in people, which can lead me to trust them too easily. However, I believe that trust is extremely important in a society where we live together. There have been times when trusting others has put me at a disadvantage and caused me to experience disappointment in people, but I believe that life would be meaningless without trust. People say that my tendency to trust others easily is a weakness, but I don’t think it is a major weakness. I will demonstrate my abilities based on my belief in and trust of others in carrying out my duties at your company.
Career (or experience that demonstrates your work abilities)
Upon graduation, I joined the equipment maintenance team at a factory affiliated with my graduate school. The factory consisted of three lines with a total capacity of 180 MW, and I joined the company when the first line was being set up, and was responsible for setting up and stabilizing all three lines. While stabilizing the lines, I also worked on equipment maintenance and process operations. I did my best to reduce costs by localizing parts after stabilizing the process conditions for WET equipment, furnaces, CDV, and printing equipment. In addition, I was in charge of equipment maintenance along with process engineering, and I wanted to study and work more deeply, so I studied harder than anyone else to learn the conditions and details of the process for each piece of equipment.
Motivation for applying and aspirations
Mark Twain once said, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I am always thinking about what I can do and living with a spirit of challenge. What I want to do is not just to do what I am good at and do it as well as anyone else, but to build on that and do something even better. I majored in mechanical engineering, and now I want to take on the challenge of working for your company, which is leading the way in Korea. I don’t want to become someone who only does what I am good at and gets stuck in habits and customs. I want to follow in the footsteps of my father, who always took on challenges, and become someone who continues to grow.
Adapting to a new place is both scary and exciting. Through my study abroad experience, I worked hard with a sense of urgency to overcome my fear of the unknown. I believe that this process will also be necessary for me to join your company. I am confident that I can do well. With passion, confidence, and determination, I was able to adapt to life in Canada and master my major. My experience has taught me that I can do anything. My work skills and dedication will surely be an asset to your company. If given the opportunity to work for your company, I will quickly adapt to my duties and work hard to be recognized for my abilities.
