How can I connect my part-time job experience in customer service to a career in supply management?

In this blog post, I will introduce ways to effectively demonstrate the problem-solving skills and service mindset required for a career in supply management based on my experience communicating directly with customers.

Growth

Influenced by my parents, who encouraged me to be independent, I have taken the initiative in almost all decisions related to myself. This attitude has greatly helped me live a more independent and responsible life. There are many choices to make in life, and I realized that I cannot always ask my parents for advice, and that it is my life, not someone else’s, to decide. Therefore, before making a decision, I try to make the right decision by researching a lot of information to be more careful. However, that does not mean that I do not listen to my parents’ advice. There was a time when I realized that I needed to develop my perception skills. I blindly told them that I wanted to go to a specialized high school. This was because I didn’t feel the need to go to college. However, my parents told me that they wanted me to continue my studies at a higher level. They also said that I didn’t have any particular goal that would justify going to a specialized high school, so they couldn’t allow me to go just because I didn’t want to go to college. At that time, I was very confused about my future career path. I didn’t have any clear goals in life, so I didn’t feel the need to study. I had no reason to argue with my parents, so I followed their advice and went to a regular high school, and I realized that it was the right decision. After entering high school, I became very interested in sociology. My interest in learning sparked my academic curiosity, and I became motivated to study sociology further at university. If I had entered a specialized high school without a clear goal, I would not have been able to experience this joy. This experience taught me how important it is to make careful decisions in life. I will be an employee who exercises caution at every moment of choice and makes careful and responsible decisions.

School days

As I became interested in social issues, I became interested in sociological theory. Social science is a field of study that creates theories and laws by observing human life. I was very interested in current affairs, and in my third year of high school, I was one of the final four contestants on Golden Bell. When I heard that my school had been selected to appear on KBS Golden Bell, the most popular program among high school students, I was overjoyed. As the head of the current affairs debate club, I was confident in my knowledge of current affairs. In the preliminary round, 100 students were selected, and all of us, including my juniors in the current affairs debate club, passed. In order to perform better in the finals, we started to come up with questions that we thought might be asked. I also got help from my friends who were studying science. As we advanced to the higher levels, the questions became more complex, combining humanities and science, so I, who was weak in science, received a lot of help. When I made it to the final four, I felt very proud. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the finals, but I had no regrets. That’s because I had worked so hard. Question 41 was a science question, which was not included in the expected questions, and it was very unfamiliar to me. That experience led me to subscribe to a science magazine. I felt that even though I was in the humanities, I couldn’t neglect science and mathematics. I think this was an opportunity for me to develop the ability to think in a way that combines the humanities and natural sciences. While reading science magazines, there were many theoretical concepts that I did not understand, but most of them were common knowledge that was interesting to read. Among them, I was particularly interested in energy. I found the content related to city gas, which is widely used today, so interesting that I even made a scrapbook. The supply management field that your company is recruiting for involves office management, but I think it is also necessary to have a good understanding of natural science systems. In that sense, I believe that my approach to studying the humanities and natural sciences in a comprehensive manner will be very helpful. With my extensive knowledge of energy management, including natural gas, I am confident that I can achieve great results in supply management.

Strengths and weaknesses

In high school, I was the head of the current affairs debate club, and in college, I led an environmental club called Green Eco. As you can see, I have often taken on leadership roles in teams. I believe this is because I have a personality that allows me to listen to others and consider their opinions. I started the environmental club “Green Eco” in college because I became interested in science in high school. Among the sciences, I was particularly interested in energy, and I was very interested in eco-friendly energy. I realized the need to protect the environment and the importance of coexisting with nature, so I encouraged not only college students but also high school students to participate. We held programs for high school students about four times a year. I have fond memories of our eco-friendly projects, such as camping in the mountains and by rivers. I felt very proud when I read the feedback after the camps. As you can see, I have the planning and execution skills to carry out innovative projects.
My weakness is that I worry a lot. When I am overly cautious, it turns into worry. Being careful in my work is a great strength of mine, but when I worry too much about preparing and planning, it takes me longer to get ready. I think my excessive worrying is a weakness because it reduces the amount of time I have to actually do the work. Rather than just worrying, I will strive to do my work perfectly by correcting and improving any shortcomings as I go along.

Work experience (or experience that demonstrates your work abilities)

I worked part-time at ○○ City Gas. I worked for six months doing safety checks at people’s homes. It was physically demanding because I had to visit many houses, but I worked hard with all my heart as it was my first job. This experience taught me a lot. Although I was visiting houses, many people were reluctant to open their doors. While conducting safety inspections with a friendly attitude, I remembered when I was a customer myself. By putting myself in their shoes and providing good service, I was able to hear many customers express their gratitude. The experience of working directly with customers will be very helpful in my supply management work. This is because I was able to think about what needs to be improved while receiving customer complaints. Based on this, I will strive to provide the best service possible.

Reason for applying and aspirations

I am confident that I can quickly learn the work at your company and become a top expert. I am passionate about my work. I have always done my best in everything I have done with a sense of independence and self-reliance. The reason I have been recognized so far is because I have done my best and worked diligently with a positive attitude. While participating in the eco-friendly club “Green Eco” during college, I was able to gain a lot of knowledge about eco-friendly energy and learn a lot about energy. I believe that these efforts will definitely help me in my work at your company.
If given the opportunity to work at your company, I will strive to create a cooperative atmosphere within the team so that it can become a driving force for the company’s development and growth. I will listen to the opinions of others and take a collaborative approach to achieve progressive results. Please give me the opportunity to prove that my plans are not in vain. I will faithfully carry out my duties with the enthusiasm and drive of a new employee.
