Pharma Applicants, What Experiences Should You Highlight in Your Personal Statement?

In this blog post, we’ll show you how to effectively incorporate a variety of experiences, such as volunteer work, community service, and working holidays, into your personal statement when applying to pharmaceutical companies.

Background

“I grew up in the countryside, not in the city, feeling ‘Jeong’”
I grew up in the countryside, not in the city. I grew up in a small town near Tongyeong, and those 12 years are really the memories of my life. The people who were always warm, the uncles who would share their catch with us while smelling fishy, the people who would clean it and feast once a month or so on a flat in the center of town, sharing their hardships over rice wine. Uncles and aunts who would bow their heads and apologize to each other for the occasional quarrel, only to be admonished by their grandfathers, “Yes, sir, I understand. I grew up in such a neighborhood, and I grew up really close with my few little friends, all of them being friends, like older siblings, younger siblings, etc. Because of that, I knew that the kindness shared between people was different, and I was the kind of person who wanted to share this kind of kindness even if I was alone in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city. Because of that, I participated in volunteer work faithfully and gave generously to my friends, and I met a lot of people and tried to live a life of giving without thinking of receiving. Because of that, there are many people around me, and my dream is to live happily with them.

My strengths and weaknesses

“What you have to do, you have to do even if it kills you.”
I hate to say I can’t do it because I’m a woman, or it’s hard because I’m a woman. When it comes to work, I have a strong sense of pride and a strong desire to complete things, and I think that completeness represents me. So even when I had a part-time job, I didn’t look for a job by focusing on what a woman would do, or what a person with good hands would do, and I worked at a warehouse, checking the inventory and making pair sounds to the uncle. I also eat well and sleep well, and I don’t blame or complain about my surroundings, but rather try to forge ahead while taking care of my surroundings. Therefore, I think I am a person who has the ability to do any job.
The downside of my personality is that because of my perfectionist temperament, I am sometimes criticized for being cold because of my over-planning. I have been criticized for being too forward without caring about my surroundings when playing team games or conducting conferences with business students. I want to try to become a person who can think about the people around me and be more relaxed when doing my work.

School Life and Volunteer Service

“Through club activities, I realize the reality of Korea.”
To my shame, I grew up in a not-so-struggling environment. My parents ran their own business and worked very hard, so they were able to provide good things for their family. I grew up with no worries, so I didn’t know much about the realities of poverty. However, when I volunteered for the elderly living alone, I felt the fear of poverty when I saw people sleeping in a space that could only fit one person, people enduring pain alone without their families, and people in debt because they had no money. That’s why I kept volunteering and didn’t stop even when I was sick. I realized the seriousness of the elderly problem in Korea and knew that I wanted to work in a place where I could help alleviate the problem a little bit, and I decided on a career path at Gaesung Pharmaceutical. I wanted to work in a place where I could provide and give the medicine that is really needed where it is really needed.
“The Importance of Unity”
I realized the importance of unity when I worked part-time as a cram school instructor. In the cram school I attended, the atmosphere was really bad because there were so few friends and the students distrusted each other and spoke ill of each other. Working there, I could really feel the difficulty of not having unity. After working part-time for about four months, I realized that I had to let go of my selfishness and realize that we should be there for each other when we work. Based on that experience, I became a more tolerant and communicative person.

Social Experience

“Experiencing the vision and marketing of various companies through external activities.”
I have experienced the vision and marketing of various companies through various external activities. I experienced Lotte’s commercialistic marketing while doing cultural marketing at Lotte, and I thought about working for a foundation while doing supporters at CJ Culture Foundation. I also thought about companies that have a good profit structure while doing supporters for plays and products. This experience was the reason why I chose individualized medicine.
“Developing language skills and adaptability through working holiday experiences.”
Going on a working holiday was also a great social experience for me. I experienced what it’s like to build something from scratch on my own, from finding a place to live to learning a language to finding a job to getting food, I was exposed to a new way of culture and learning to ask for favors, and I was able to discover a new side of myself and realize the possibilities for myself. In a foreign country, I had a sales job and I found that I was surprisingly good at meeting people and my language skills improved a lot, and I was able to build my confidence based on that experience.

Application Motivation and Aspirations

“I want to work for a company that cares about people.”
The company I want to work for after graduation is a company for people. I want to work for a company that is people-oriented, which is why I chose Gaekyung Pharmaceuticals. Gaekyung Pharmaceuticals has become a leading company in the pharmaceutical wholesale industry and is committed to the distribution of pharmaceuticals under the banner of advanced logistics for specialty drugs. It is also a company that contributes to the health of the people by delivering drugs to public hospitals quickly and accurately. It is also an upright company that always thinks that growth is due to people. I admire your company and that’s why I applied to join your company.
If I work for your company, I will be a person who cares about people. First of all, I will be a person who cares about the employees and the people I work with, so I will be a person who can make the atmosphere in the company beautiful and good. I will also be a person who participates in campaigns by contributing to various things that are people-oriented as a company that cares about people. I will work hard to develop your company so that I can help and save more people. Thank you very much.
