In this blog post, we will look at specific examples of what experiences to focus on when writing a self-introduction letter for a public relations job.
Growth and school days
“A talented public relations person who has been preparing steadily since school days”
I was an announcer in the broadcasting club in high school. The broadcasting club is an inseparable part of my life. I spent a long time in the broadcasting club and took on the role of announcer, becoming the face of the school broadcasts. People usually think that the role of an announcer is just to deliver news, but that wasn’t the case for me. I took on a variety of roles and became close with the other members of the club, eventually becoming the club president. Taking on the role of president rather than just a member made me feel even more responsible. In high school, I was more passionate about the broadcasting club than studying, and I was recognized for my abilities as an announcer while serving as a moderator and presenter at various school events.
My involvement in the broadcasting club in high school led me to the field of media and public relations. I naturally decided to major in media and public relations and studied with my broadcasting club members. We spent a year preparing for entrance exams and encouraging each other. As a result, we all got into the departments we wanted, and even after becoming college students, we joined a joint club and continued to interact with each other. During my school days, I studied with a passion for media and public relations, and I planned my career path while steadily building relationships with friends who were walking the same path.
Strengths and weaknesses
“A leader who drives innovation and leads new ideas.”
I have friends who I have been with since high school. They are closer than siblings, and they have always been by my side, from my days in the broadcasting club to college, so they know me better than anyone else. They describe me as an ”innovator.” When I was the head of the broadcasting club, I took the lead in breaking existing rules and creating new ones. Seeing my drive, my friends described me as an innovative leader, and they always followed my lead.
In that sense, I have the typical traits of a leader. I am very outgoing and humorous, and I like to make people laugh and have fun. That is why I am able to naturally create a fun atmosphere when I am the leader of a team. I also value my teammates and listen to their opinions to create new rules and lead innovation. Rather than strictly following existing rules, I like to interpret them in new ways, and I study various things to come up with creative ideas. If I have a weakness, it is that I am always pursuing new things, so I am not very good at following existing rules. To compensate for this, I try to respect the culture of the organization, as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Core Competencies
“A mediator who believes that human relationships also require study”
I took on many leadership roles during my school days. In high school, I was the president of a club, and in college, I was the head of my department. I also often served as the leader of volunteer groups and project teams. As a result, I naturally thought about human relationships within organizations from various perspectives. This is because, as a leader, there were times when I tried to create a good atmosphere within the organization, but things did not go as I had hoped. Conflict within an organization is inevitable, and another role of a leader is to coordinate and mediate these conflicts. That is why I came to believe that, as much as I like people, I need to study people and human relationships.
I don’t view human relationships as simply a network of people, but as an important part of life. There is a book called “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Like the book, I prefer to study human relationships from a psychological perspective. I have studied the relationships between members of an organization and the emotional support needed to achieve common goals through the performance of roles. Based on this study, when working in an organization, I can quickly understand the characteristics of the members and propose ways to help them get along with each other. If conflicts arise, I am confident that I can act as a communication channel to mediate and coordinate while exchanging opinions with each other.
Areas of interest and desired position
“I would like to work in a department that promotes educational content as a public relations officer.”
My original dream was to become a teacher. I thought teaching students and creating educational materials would be very interesting. However, I realized that I was actually better at something else. I was good at public relations and promoting myself to others. For example, I had a talent for persuading others and inspiring new behavior through presentations. So, in order to fully utilize this talent, I decided to study public relations and marketing at university. However, I still had an interest in teaching. Therefore, while at university, I volunteered to tutor students through a talent donation program.
Based on this experience, I would like to work in the field of educational material and content marketing at Kyoko Group. With my major in public relations, I am confident in my ability to establish strategies for promoting educational content to the public and carry out corporate publicity projects. On the other hand, I am also interested in creating educational content and collecting educational materials, as I am attracted to the teaching profession. I believe that combining my interests and major will make me a great fit for educational content marketing at Kyōn Group. In the case of educational content, the production and design process is important, but it is even more important to promote it to the public and secure users. Therefore, I would like to work in the field of establishing various marketing strategies to promote content.
Achievements
“I will become a talented employee who contributes to the organization through my efforts.”
When I was in college, I tutored high school students. I mainly tutored Korean and English, but I also provided college counseling as a college student mentor. When I was in high school, I had many concerns about my career path and struggled to decide which department to major in, so I wanted to be a good mentor to younger students. In particular, my mentoring activities were conducted through a public institution and were part of volunteer work, so I felt a sense of responsibility. I didn’t get paid for tutoring, so I didn’t earn much, but I wanted to help my students get into the departments they wanted at good universities.
When tutoring, I made sure to create learning content from the student’s perspective. I thought it was important to not just collect information that I wanted to convey, but to select and provide only the information that was necessary for the student. So, I always prioritized consulting with the student when planning educational content, and tried to improve the materials based on their feedback. Thanks to my efforts, the student was able to enter the teacher training college of their choice, which was very rewarding. In particular, this experience made me realize the importance of educational services and the satisfaction of helping others through my efforts. Similarly, if I work at Kyokushin Group, I would like to contribute to the organization and the company by developing promotional strategies to raise awareness of our educational services.
