In this blog post, we will introduce effective tips for writing self-introduction letters for new applicants taking their first steps in the ICT field.
Growth
Since childhood, I have been quick to understand new things, had a keen curiosity, and was flexible in my acceptance of new ideas. Compared to my parents and older sister, who believed in the principle that “people should live as they have always lived” and maintained a somewhat strict family atmosphere, I was a child who stood out a little. Computer-based education had become commonplace, so we bought a computer for my sister’s studies, but unlike other family members who rarely used it, I enjoyed playing games with my friends and surfing the internet. This may have been influenced by the fact that I was not as physically fit as other children my age during my childhood. Unlike my family members, who went hiking every weekend and spent their time outdoors participating in sports clubs rather than staying at home, I liked to stay at home and absorb and enjoy various information that I couldn’t experience elsewhere.
My father was disappointed that I was passive and stayed at home, but since I was in poor health as a child, I received special treatment from my family, which allowed me to freely develop my unusual interests. Whenever my parents and sister went out to enjoy sports such as tennis and bowling, I would stay at home and play tennis and bowling games, showing a contrasting side of myself. Whenever I saw my sister, who was in such good health compared to me, I regretted my physical limitations, but I was also motivated by the thought that I had my own weapons and special skills that were just as good as hers, and that I had to find them.
School life
I was able to buy most of the latest gadgets that children were interested in, such as computers and game consoles, as soon as they came out, so my friends naturally envied me. My father didn’t like my spending habits, which meant he had to come up with more and more reasons for me to stay home, but I was able to fill my room with things I wanted because I convinced him that, since my sister and parents were so active outside the home, I needed things that would stimulate my brain. Proving that he wasn’t entirely wrong, unlike my sister, who was more athletic, I excelled in my studies and brought home report cards that made my parents proud of me in ways other than physical strength. I had nothing to be proud of physically, so I was determined to overcome this mentally and always tried to build a foundation to support my self-esteem.
I didn’t just use the infrastructure I had built up for my own interests, but worked hard to pursue areas where I could gain an advantage. Even when playing a game, I would devote myself to finding the best strategy and set overwhelming records in the community, and I gained a wealth of knowledge about programming and computers in general, becoming what my family, who were complete novices in that field, called a “computer doctor.” My efforts were recognized by my father, who saw that the time I spent sitting in my room was not wasted or worthless, and provided me with the foundation to be recognized as a son he was proud of, who simply had a different area of expertise. This gave me the self-confidence I had always lacked due to my physical inferiority.
Personality
I am the type of person who does not give in to my shortcomings and limitations, but rather finds my strengths and overcomes them to establish my self-esteem. This is because I understand that everyone has their own characteristics and strengths and weaknesses, and that no one can be perfect in every way. Even if you have a talent in a certain field, it may be completely different in another field. My father, who was muscular, well-built, and had strong endurance, excelled in fields that required strength and stamina, but he was not so good at sports that required speed and agility. This is because human abilities are like cards, with two sides, a positive side and a negative side. I believe that if my weaknesses seem significant at first glance, then I must have strengths that are just as significant, so I have spared no effort or investment in pursuing my interests in fields that require intellectual ability.
Now, I am always mindful of my weaknesses and work to overcome them, such as by carefully managing my physical fitness, and I never stop refining my strengths to make them shine even brighter. I believe that each person is born with several talents and abilities, like raw gems, and that it is impossible to fully utilize them without personal effort and refinement.
Values
I want to be a person who always strives to learn throughout my life. In this day and age, where the pace of development is accelerating, we are witnessing many things that we took for granted in the past disappearing into the annals of history, as we experience firsthand how much reality can change in just a year. We sometimes feel confused by new things and tend to have difficulty adapting to them. The younger we are, the more sensitive and quick to respond we are to such changes, but as we get older, our ideas become fixed and our reflexes slow down.
However, rather than lamenting that the reality that keeps pushing us back is “too fast,” we must always strive to keep up with it, even if only a little at a time. Otherwise, we will eventually be pushed so far back that we will be unable to overcome the gap and will inevitably fall into the same fate as the relics of the past that have been forgotten by people. That is why I always try to be like a child who is curious and sensitive to changes in the times, keeping my senses sharp.
Motivation for applying and aspirations after joining the company
The development of the world, where system operations within buildings allow us to utilize technology and information across a wider range of fields than any offline activity, has given me the confidence that even though my body remains in one place, my mind can travel around the world. In particular, when the work involves overseas trade or aviation services that cross the sea, I am very interested in the possibility of a job where I can escape the limitations of Korea and have a wide range of influence, which led me to apply for a position at your company.
If I am given the opportunity to work with your company, I will strive to adapt flexibly to the changing times and keep up with the latest developments in order to make the most of my ability to think quickly and act decisively. At my young age, it is difficult to fully appreciate the value of this trait, but as people reach an age where they are inevitably replaced by technological advances, it will become increasingly important to constantly improve oneself and be fully prepared for any situation.
