Growing up
My parents, who were both working, always apologized for not paying enough attention to my brother, who was the oldest child. When I was growing up, my mother didn’t work outside the home, so I spent a lot of time with her. My brother, who is six years younger than me, didn’t get to spend as much time with her, and I think this made me look out for him even more. I think this is where I learned to take care of someone and be responsible for them, unlike when I didn’t have a brother. If I was more inclined to make everything about me when I didn’t have a brother, after I had a brother, I started to think about my brother before me. This was manifested not only in my behavior towards my brother, but also in my behavior towards my friends at school, and I was soon called “mom” by my friends. However, I didn’t hate this term, because I think a mother is a person who is precious to everyone and gives love selflessly. I thought that being such a person to my friends meant that I was indispensable to them, so I took care of my friends even more, and I think this process laid the foundation for me to grow into a responsible and meticulous person.
School life
Despite being nicknamed ‘mom’, I have strong financial strength and have been able to support myself by working various part-time jobs since the year I entered university. Working a variety of part-time jobs helped me develop social adaptability and fill in the gaps in my skills. My first part-time job as a college student was selling cosmetics at a department store. The store was located in a downtown area with many foreigners, and I had to struggle with my short foreign language skills every time a foreign customer came in. I started attending an English language school with the money I earned from my part-time job, and although language was not a quick-fix skill, I was no longer afraid of foreigners. I started thinking about how I could earn money while learning a foreign language, and I realized that the foreign language school I was attending was hiring part-time students. The main duties were helping at the desk and organizing the classroom before and after class. While helping out at the desk, I realized that I needed to get some computer skills, as I found that being able to fill out various documents made my work much more efficient. So I started with simple Word and got a computer literacy certificate. In addition to these part-time jobs, I was also able to keep up with my university studies and maintain a high GPA. My college experience was a valuable time for me to not only expand my knowledge of my major, but also to supplement my skills.
Personality strengths and weaknesses and life credo
Being meticulous and taking care of others is a great strength of mine. I guess it has been a habit since I was a child to take care of others. I keep meticulous notes of birthdays and get-well wishes for my friends and loved ones, and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to see their faces light up when they realize I remembered something they mentioned in passing. I think this is one of the reasons why I get along so well with people around me, and why once I make a connection, it can last for a long time. I think this personality trait will be a great advantage in working in the general affairs department, which is like the “mother” of the company.
On the other hand, I am not good at saying no to people’s requests, which I think can make me come across as indecisive. Therefore, I try to discern which requests I can grant and which I cannot. This is helping me to make sure that people don’t feel bad when I turn down a favor, but rather understand me. This makes me a decisive person.
