How should you show your strategic thinking skills in a self-introduction letter for a planning and management position?

In this blog post, we will introduce effective ways to include your strategic thinking skills required for planning and management positions in your self-introduction letter, focusing on actual experiences and examples.

Growth

I spent my childhood playing outdoors and enjoying nature. At night, I listened to the sounds of insects and looked up at the stars, and during the day, I would grab a net and spend the whole day playing with the neighborhood kids. Those memories are the most important part of my childhood. Although it was a small neighborhood, my parents were very keen on education and always paid close attention to my grades, so I was fortunate to find studying enjoyable and grew up recognized as one of the brightest children in the neighborhood. My parents never forced me to do anything or recommended things I didn’t want to do, but they emphasized one thing: “Be a person who earns their keep.” They said that everyone has a mission in life and that if you don’t do your job even for a day, you don’t deserve to eat. They told me that when students are students, parents are parents, employees are employees, and bosses are bosses, and everyone fulfills their roles faithfully, positive energy will gather and produce results. Then and now, I always keep my parents’ words in my heart and strive to be a person who is worthy of their support.

School days

I wanted to start working as soon as possible to ease the financial burden on my family, so I enrolled in ○○ Technical High School on a full scholarship. I had always enjoyed working with machines, and I found the hands-on classes rewarding and interesting. I worked hard to keep up with the theory and other subjects as well as the practical training, and as a result, I was able to enter university on a scholarship. As a university student, I studied hard, but I also devoted myself to various club activities that I had never tried before. In particular, the tennis club I started with my classmates taught me the importance of networking through sports, and I spent a lot of time with the friends I made through the club. Even now, as a company employee, I rent a nearby tennis court every Sunday to play with friends I have been playing with since college, and I think that Sunday morning tennis is the only time of the week when I can focus on my body without any stress.
Unlike my high school days, when I focused on my studies and getting into college, my college life was a series of countless encounters and gatherings. In addition to student council activities, I spent my college life as a member of various groups, such as joint clubs and alumni associations, where I served as an executive member and secretary. Of course, as a scholarship student, maintaining a certain level of academic performance was essential. In any case, through these various community activities during my college life, I gained a new perspective on relationships with people, and I also learned what kind of role I should play in a group of people and what conditions are necessary to maintain a group. I think these experiences have been very helpful in my social life since then.

Strengths and weaknesses

I think I was always doing two things at once. Studying and working, or studying and community activities. During my school days, I was covering my tuition and other expenses with scholarships, so no matter how busy or difficult my work was, or how passionate I was about other activities, I had to maintain a certain level of grades. I think my sense of responsibility and diligence played a big role in helping me achieve this balance. Studying is a student’s duty, so it goes without saying, and part-time work is directly related to my livelihood, so it’s more of a responsibility, but working as a member of various community and club organizations is something that requires diligence because it brings me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, as well as the joy of interacting with people, rather than visible rewards. I am known for placing importance on responsibility in my work and for being somewhat overly meticulous and picky, but when people see me in a casual setting, they are surprised to see a completely different side of me. Perhaps it is this ability to balance my studies and work, and my studies and community activities, that has made me who I am today. I believe that difficult moments at work reveal a person’s true value, and I strive to make things work somehow and come up with the best or second-best solution, as I believe that is the fundamental approach.

Career history (or experience that demonstrates work ability)

From 20○○, I was in charge of customer service at a mobile phone company’s customer center for ○ years. I believe that customer centers are the front line of service, where you can hear the voices of customers most vividly. In fact, most of the customers who visit service centers are those who are experiencing some kind of inconvenience or problem, so it was essential to first understand and empathize with their concerns before addressing them. I received training and listened to a lot of advice from my seniors, but in reality, I was still unsure of myself. However, through actual contact with customers, I learned exactly what they wanted and what I needed to do, and I was able to respond to them based on this knowledge. As I accumulated this know-how, my customer ratings naturally improved, and I was able to achieve good service results. Once I became familiar with customer service work, I fell into a rut of responding according to patterns. This led me to become interested in service work in a broader sense.
In 20○○, I changed jobs to ○○ Company, where I successfully performed market quality control in the service team, and then worked on service policy establishment and planning, service center evaluation management, service system management, and service cost management. I had a general understanding of service work, but as I studied more extensively, I received a lot of help from industry seniors through lectures at specialized institutions and communities, which helped me overcome my limitations and do my job to the best of my ability. Currently, I often give lectures based on my experiences at the communities and classes that helped me, and I also participate in meetings as a mentor. I believe that there is no substitute for hard work and practical experience.

Motivation and aspirations

I believe that the most important aspect of work is a sense of ownership. I understand better than anyone that a single careless word or expression can be perceived by customers as the position or voice of the company. In addition, when addressing consumer needs and issues, I do my best to find solutions with the mindset that I am representing the company. This is because service is not about doing more or less, but rather about understanding the people who use the product or service. I believe that this mindset should be carried over to relationships with teammates and other communities within the company. I believe that it is important to start conversations and lay the foundation for working together based on understanding and consideration for the people I work with and talk to, rather than focusing on myself. Based on my career, experience, and know-how, I will strive to serve as a lubricant to more effectively convey the solid industrial foundation of XX Company to our customers. Please take a close look at my career and experience to date, as well as my future achievements and prospects. Thank you very much.
