In this blog post, we will introduce how to convincingly convey the challenging spirit required for human resources jobs in your self-introduction letter by connecting it to practical experience rather than simple enthusiasm.
Company selection criteria
“I admire your company for achieving what everyone said was impossible.”
AmorePacific has undergone numerous innovations since its establishment in 2006 through the spin-off of the cosmetics, household goods, and food divisions of Taepyeongyang Co. In August of the same year, it entered the Japanese market under the AmorePacific brand, and in September, it launched MB&S by integrating its mass beauty and health divisions. In August 2007, the brand Laneige entered the Russian market through Lotte Department Store Moscow, and in 2008, Aritaum opened its first store, dominating the cosmetics market. In 2010, the Innisfree business division was spun off to form Innisfree Co., Ltd., and in June of the same year, the holding company AGO was established. In 2011, the company acquired French perfume company Annick Goutal. The fact that a company that started in 2006 was able to develop in such an unprecedented manner shows that, in addition to financial and human resources, all of the company’s employees are united by a spirit of challenge and constantly strive to find new things and new markets. Watching AmorePacific’s progress, I majored in business administration and became even more impressed and respectful of the company’s vision and expansion. That is why I chose to join your company. Your company does not hesitate to take on any challenge and does not consider any situation impossible. I have a big dream of joining your company’s atmosphere and global flow. I will now show you my life, which I have built with passion, having devoted myself solely to Amorepacific. Thank you very much.
The most important corporate value
“Challenge every moment.”
I value a challenging spirit above all else, and I have strived to develop the kind of challenging spirit that would make me a good fit for Amorepacific. The first thing I worked on was exercise. I liked studying since I was young, so I was a bit chubby and didn’t exercise much. However, I thought that I needed to be more energetic to become a good fit at Amorepacific, so I started exercising with that goal in mind. Eight months later, I lost 12 kg and learned how to swim for the first time in my life, even obtaining a scuba diving license. It was my first time trying these sports, so I tore a muscle and collapsed from exhaustion, but I knew I couldn’t give up. I will never forget the joy I felt when I finally obtained my license and saw myself in the mirror looking more energetic. I also worked in different regions and countries during my vacations. I thought that if I was going to work part-time, I should experience a variety of things. I was born and raised in Seoul, but I worked part-time in various places such as Busan, Ulsan, Jeonju, and Jeju Island, including ski resorts, meat restaurants, cafes, and shaved ice shops. Through these experiences, I was able to learn about the culture of other regions as well as Seoul and meet many different people. I also earned money and traveled abroad frequently, and even went to Japan, which is considered the home of cosmetics, for language training. I struggled with the high cost of living in the center of Japan, but I quickly adapted and was able to attend university while working part-time. My conservative friends didn’t let me participate in presentations, but I prepared for them on my own and always greeted people first, which allowed me to make good friends and learn a lot. In addition, I always challenge myself in everything I do and never stop trying. I will work diligently and take on challenges at AmorePacific.
Competencies related to the position I applied for
“I will write about my experiences meeting people.”
I met many people while working part-time jobs in various places. I used to think that everyone in the world was ordinary, but through the diverse people I met at work, I realized that there are no ordinary people in the world and that many different people live together. While training in Japan, I learned about the meticulous nature of Japanese people. Most of the people who made plans down to the minute and worked to stick to them wanted to work at a research institute. I didn’t see anyone who wanted to work in sales or at a counter. Watching my meticulous friends, I realized that I wanted to find out what kind of work people like them needed and what kind of work they wanted to do. I also worked part-time at a cafe in Jeju Island, but the cafe I worked at suddenly closed due to financial difficulties. I was suddenly forced to leave a place I had come to call home, and as I thought about the situation, I realized that the cafe was run by a laid-back owner and a strict manager who didn’t get along, and that was why the cafe wasn’t doing well. This experience made me realize that people will not quit their jobs if they work in a place that suits their personality and aptitude, and that they will be able to work hard and demonstrate their abilities. In addition, through meeting various people, I realized the importance of human resources, as I saw examples of people who found their place and those who did not.
Efforts to develop capabilities
“Understand the times and the era.”
I believed that in order to perform my duties in human resources and general affairs at Amorepacific, I needed to understand the times and the era. I felt that I needed to understand the beauty trends and the needs of the public in this era led by Amorepacific. This is because I felt that only then could I properly perform my HR duties, better support the people working at the company, and connect them with the people they need, thereby making the company more vibrant and efficient. Therefore, in order to understand the times and trends, I read beauty magazines every month and make scrapbooks, and I also read the newspaper once a day to keep up with the economy and current events. I also thought it was important to know the right timing. Timing means greeting the right people at the right time. In order to become better at greeting people and timing, I read about the hiring processes of various companies in different fields, attended classes, and attended seminars to interact with various people. I will always strive to become a smart employee who understands the times and knows how to time things right.
Future aspirations
“People are the most important thing.”
When I was a junior in college, I participated in a farm stay program. I can say with certainty that it was the worst farm stay program ever. The general affairs manager was careless and lost our money, and the leader was a nice person but had a poor sense of direction, so he kept leading us down the wrong path and we got lost. If that was going to be the case, the professor who accompanied us should have been more strict, but he was the type of person who ignored the students. During that difficult farm work experience, I felt the importance of people as I took responsibility for everything because I was a third-year student and got the farm work back on track. This is a basic situation, but through my study abroad experience, my activities as a supporter, and my time at university, I learned firsthand that the most important thing is where people are, that an organization can only function when there is a leader and people working under them.
I believe that the most important factor in the growth of AmorePacific is its people. As I wish to join the department that manages these people, I will reflect on myself and become a person who can manage others. I will also strive to constantly understand and work hard to place the right people in the right positions. I will become a person who grows with each passing day and contribute to the growth of your company. Thank you very much.
