In this blog post, we will introduce how to effectively include the morality and self-control required of new lawyers in your self-introduction letter through actual experiences and attitudes, rather than simply mentioning values.
Growth
When I was a child, the person who had the strongest influence on me was my cousin, who is still actively working as a prosecutor. Despite his tall stature, good looks, and natural intelligence, he also had a meticulous sense and a considerate personality, which made him loved by everyone and regarded by adults as the pillar of the family. From an early age, he dreamed of entering the legal profession so that he could use his exceptional intellect to contribute to society in a positive way. He did not take his environment and talents for granted, but considered them gifts from God and always thought about how he could give back to society. He always emphasized to me that if I wanted to have more, I had to be willing to give more.
Compared to my brother, I was just an average person, but my only pride was that I was smarter than others and good at studying. I wasn’t good-looking, athletic, or very sociable, so my self-esteem was based entirely on my academic performance, and I constantly thought, “At least I’m better than you.” However, when I saw my cousin, who was born with all kinds of qualities that I could never compare to, yet was never arrogant and always sought to improve himself with a humble attitude, I felt ashamed. It was as if a character with a low level in a game was showing off his skills in front of a character with a high level who was never arrogant about his abilities. And rather than rejecting others and becoming obsessed with my own world, my cousin’s attitude of naturally loving and being loved by everyone seemed much cooler and refreshing, so I was able to gradually escape from the world I had isolated myself in.
School days
As my cousin said, if my brain and aptitude for studying were given to me so that I could give back to society and fulfill my duties, I wondered how I could repay the world. I decided to follow in my cousin’s footsteps and become a lawyer, and I devoted myself to my studies. I also had a deep desire to have a job that others would envy, but I was fascinated by the proper attitude of a lawyer that my cousin emphasized with passion and his stories about the many ways in which lawyers could help the world. My parents, who were very proud of my cousin, gave me their unlimited support and encouragement for my career choice.
Until then, I had been content with what I thought was “good enough,” but once I set my sights on a higher goal in life, I realized that I couldn’t achieve it with my current level of ability. Even if I passed the entrance exams, which were an important goal for many children, I would still have to face even more difficult challenges. In addition, in order to exceed the cut-off score for the law department of my desired university, I needed to work harder and be more focused than ever before, so I tightened my self-control and began to study hard, seeking advice and know-how from my cousin. My cousin took my future aspirations seriously and recognized me, saying, “Let’s work hard together to become colleagues in the legal profession.” That was when I was able to start seriously preparing to build a solid foundation for my future.
Personality
Influenced by my cousin, who always put others before himself, I am also a person who cares about others in society. I am not a natural justice-seeker, nor am I overly virtuous, but I am a normal person. However, after watching my cousin, who has an upright character, for a long time, I was influenced by him, and my personality gradually became clearer. Therefore, I am well aware of the fact that ordinary people are easily swayed by their desires and passions, having experienced this myself as a child. Nevertheless, through my own life, I have learned firsthand how important it is to strive to get along harmoniously with others and to think of others before myself. People are creatures that are weak to desire, and no matter how many good deeds they have done in the past, if they do not set boundaries for themselves, they can easily fall.
As an ordinary person who is inevitably weak to temptation, I believe that I am able to pay close attention to the temptations and desires that ordinary people are prone to fall into, and that I have the ability to offer realistic advice and strategies.
Life philosophy
Rather than emphasizing what makes me different from others, I think it is important to first consider how I can use my abilities to help others. It is very important to understand your innate qualities and talents, but if you are not careful, this can become a foundation for your ego, leading to arrogance and thinking that you are different from others, that you are superior, and that you deserve special treatment. In order to avoid dividing the world into “us” and “them” and thinking only of oneself, we should not admire our abilities for their own sake, but rather be proud of them while thinking about how we can use them to give back to society.
Using one’s abilities solely for one’s own benefit is like buying expensive goods and not paying the taxes that are due on them. People who possess talents that others do not have must understand that they must pay society a price commensurate with the rarity of those talents. The more talented you are, the more you owe to society, and such good deeds are essential if you truly respect your abilities and value them properly.
Motivation for applying and aspirations after joining the company
I have a job that is envied by others, but that does not mean that I have reached a level that is different from others. The office’s philosophy that one must be more strict in self-management and improve oneself in proportion to the attention one receives from others was enough to make me feel a sense of kinship, as I have always been deeply aware of the fact that I am just an “ordinary person.” Just because I am a little more talented than others and have a job that only a few people can have, I should not use it as a means of pride to determine my identity. I want to fulfill my social obligation to constantly improve myself and serve others, and that is why I want to join your company.
I am just an ordinary person with no noble ideals of actively sacrificing myself for others or lofty ambitions as a lawyer, but that is why I will strive to understand the psychology of ordinary people who seek help and to consider their thoughts and intentions from their perspective. Realizing that I am no different in essence from the majority of people in the world, and considering the will of heaven that has allowed me to fulfill my duties as one of the select few, I will strive to demonstrate work abilities that are consistent with my calling to my current position.
