What kind of expertise can a production engineering major demonstrate in general sales?

In this blog post, we will introduce how to effectively convey your unique expertise in general sales based on your process understanding and problem-solving skills as a production engineering major in your cover letter.

Background

“Be persistent and take on challenges!”
I was not very persistent in sticking to one thing. When I was young, my parents scolded me for giving up too easily and not being patient. They always told me to be persistent and work hard. However, I couldn’t do it, so I decided to work on improving these aspects of myself. I decided to take up marathon running. At the time, there were many history marathons and youth marathons for students. Not many students participated when these events were announced at school, but I decided to take on the challenge and participate even if I was the only one. So, I tried to run for long periods of time without giving up, and I even ran in the Han River Park to improve my marathon skills. Taking on challenges with perseverance became a habit and a hobby, and through these efforts, I was able to develop the perseverance that I lacked.

Strengths and weaknesses

“Strong willpower to quit smoking”
I am ashamed to say that I have been smoking since I was in middle school. At that time, I didn’t know that smoking was a problem, and I started smoking because my friends did. In high school, I smoked so much that I was called a chain smoker. In fact, I wasn’t a bully or a problem child who engaged in bad behavior, but I was labeled as a bad person simply because I smoked a lot. On the one hand, there were many times when I wanted to quit smoking, but once I started, I couldn’t quit. So, I smoked carelessly during my school days, but when I entered college, I decided to quit smoking. It was not an easy decision to quit smoking in my early 20s while serving in the military. In the military and at work, there were many people who encouraged me to smoke, and it was directly related to my social life, so I hesitated to quit. However, I decided to quit smoking for my health, for my future children, and for my physical strength.
There is a saying that people who quit smoking are stubborn and should be avoided. However, I quit smoking, but I am not a stubborn person. I didn’t have to be stubborn to quit smoking; my determination alone was enough. In particular, I worked in the construction industry, so I often needed physical strength, and smoking a lot made me gasp for air, which made me even more determined to quit. In order to quit smoking successfully, I told those around me and asked for their help, and I was able to break my addiction by smoking electronic cigarettes. Through the six-month process of quitting smoking, I learned personal patience and perseverance, and I gained a strong determination that I can do anything if I set my mind to it. Since then, I have become a stronger person in my work, less indecisive, and more proactive and enterprising, and I have been reborn as a person of strong will.

School days

“Studying production engineering.”
In college, I wanted to major in mechanical design engineering in the field of general production engineering, so I decided on my major and studied in that field. My studies included basic industrial mathematics as well as practical mechanical training, which prepared me for the future. My goal was to work for a company specializing in production engineering and construction engineering. I wanted to become a talented person who grows step by step, and with that mindset, I designed a step-by-step learning process for myself in college. At first, I laid the foundation by learning calculus, industrial mathematics, and general physics. Step-by-step learning does not necessarily mean starting with easy topics and gradually moving on to more difficult ones, but rather that the process needs to be interconnected. So, after laying the foundation, I tried to learn what was necessary by linking the content and taking courses in machine manufacturing practice, materials mechanics, and machine element design, followed by measurement practice, machine vibration, optimal design, and tolerance design. I think I was able to study thoroughly because I completed this step-by-step process.

Life philosophy

“Let’s accumulate mileage for good deeds.”
I am not saying that you should live a good life and do only good deeds. What is good varies from person to person, and what you think is a good deed may not be considered good by others, so I don’t think that unconditional goodness is a good thing. However, I try to accumulate “good deeds” by frequently performing good deeds from an objective and universal perspective. For example, I regularly donate blood, give up my seat on the subway, participate in campaigns to encourage organ donation, and actively participate in surveys on social issues such as the Sewol ferry disaster. I do this because I realize that I am not living alone in society, but together with other people.
I believe that when I play a positive role in society and for other people, society will return that kindness to me someday. To put it simply, I donate blood once a month. I feel proud when I receive my blood donation certificate, and I feel rewarded knowing that I am helping others. And if I get sick or injured in the future, I believe that someone will donate blood to help me in my time of need. By donating blood frequently and encouraging others to do the same, I believe that my efforts will be rewarded when I need a blood transfusion in the future. Of course, I don’t do it with the expectation of receiving something in return, but I believe that creating a positive atmosphere in society is an important role as a member of society. When I accumulate mileage for good deeds, I believe that I will also be helped by the kindness of others.

Motivation for applying and aspirations

“Voluntary cooperation and wise perseverance.”
Your company’s management philosophy is as follows: It is the 2G management philosophy that business growth can be achieved through the growth of people, and therefore, the company is run based on the principle of putting people first. I agree with this management philosophy. In fact, companies and organizations are created by people. It is not that people are placed into a pre-determined organizational framework like parts of a machine. People create the atmosphere and culture of an organization, so active organisms are needed rather than passive parts. In that sense, I am a very active organism and a central communicator, and I am a useful talent who can express myself efficiently. In particular, I am a highly skilled professional with many years of experience in the power generation equipment field, which is the area Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is currently recruiting for. It may sound embarrassing to describe myself as a skilled professional, but with 10 years of experience, I believe I have acquired skills that I can be proud of.
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is a company that is showing significant growth in areas such as construction, transportation equipment, and green energy. I would like to start as a career employee at your company and grow into a talented individual who pursues wise perseverance and voluntary teamwork. In fact, when I first started my career, I knew the importance of teamwork and perseverance, but I was not fully aware of the adjectives that preceded them. I thought that working hard and long hours was perseverance, and that as long as I didn’t have any major problems working with others, I had teamwork. However, looking back now, I understand that from the perspective of an experienced employee, the same words can have different meanings. Teamwork is not just about working together, but about the adjective “voluntary,” which means cooperation that I want and strive for. And perseverance is not just about working hard and long hours, but about using the adjective “wise” to lead to efficient efforts. I am an experienced employee who truly understands the importance of these adjectives, and I will work as a team leader who emphasizes them.
