In this blog post, we will introduce how to effectively convey your expertise and communication skills suitable for textile sales in your self-introduction letter based on your understanding of materials and fashion sense as a clothing major.
Growth
“Growing up with sincere faith.”
I have been a Catholic since I was a child and have developed my faith by attending church. When I was young, my parents and relatives were all Catholic, so I naturally thought that I would become a Catholic as well. However, as I entered junior high school and then high school, I began to explore my faith and the existence of God more deeply, and my belief in my religion became even stronger. I often read the Bible and religious books, which helped me form my own religious views, and by the time I was in high school, I was able to teach younger students. So, I planned to study theology in college.
However, my parents were against it. Of course, as a believer, it is meaningful to believe in God and study His words, but they advised me not to connect it to my career, saying that it would always remain just a belief. Following my parents’ wishes, I decided to find a career in another field that I enjoyed and was good at. I had always liked dressing up and dressing well, and I was not only good at wearing clothes, but also skilled at mending and altering them. I was often told that I was good with my hands, so I decided to study clothing design to make use of this skill. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in a clothing design program and was satisfied with my choice of major. While in college, I continued to study clothing and textiles, but rather than trying to learn how to make clothes right away, I focused on acquiring a lot of basic knowledge and practicing the fundamentals.
Strengths and weaknesses
“I enjoy new challenges.”
I was very interested in fashion and textile design, and I was very active in my department during college. So, while I was in college, I formed a team with some friends who were also studying clothing design and tried out for an external audition. It was a contest for college students held by the most famous fashion company that we all wanted to work for. I participated in this audition program, presented my own fashion designs, and worked with my team to create a joint piece for the contest. In the end, I received an honorable mention, which wasn’t a great result, but just participating and receiving an award was a great joy and reward. As you can see, I am a lively person who enjoys new challenges.
Basically, I like to get together with people and do fun activities, share hobbies, and talk. Through these activities, I am able to gain positive energy from others, and I am an outgoing person who laughs a lot and talks a lot. That is why people around me often invite me to gatherings and say that I am fun to be around. I also lead the group in playing pranks and telling jokes to create a fun atmosphere. What made me especially talkative and enjoy hanging out with people was taking classes at a church. At first, I was shy when teaching many friends at the church, but later I became closer to the children and built bonds with them, which made me a more communicative person. In conclusion, I am currently a communicative person who does not hesitate to take on new challenges.
School days
“Efforts to become more sociable”
I was active in a theater club in college. Being in a theater club while studying fashion design was very busy. I had to focus on my major, attend classes, complete endless assignments, and participate in group study sessions. On top of that, practicing for my roles in the theater club every day was also difficult. However, I was able to do so because of my passion for theater. I was able to join the club because I have a loud voice and good diction, and I wanted to make use of my talent and pursue my hobby after receiving praise for my acting skills. So, I practiced acting continuously while interacting with other members who played different roles in the theater club.
What I gained from the theater club was a more sociable personality. In fact, even though I was outgoing and active, I felt that I was awkward in human relationships. I wanted to get along with everyone, but I didn’t have any close friends, and I was awkward at communicating, feeling lonely even when surrounded by people. However, I was able to break down this wall through theater. During theater practice, I sometimes had to express intense emotions, interact deeply with other actors, and understand each other. And when we performed outside, we were bound together by a strong bond because we had worked hard together. We truly interacted with each other as we shared our passions and difficult times, and through this process, I was able to break out of superficial relationships and become a very sociable person.
Hobbies and special skills
“My hobby is altering and repairing clothes.”
I have only one hobby. I spend most of my week with clothes. When I was in college, I spent most of my time making, repairing, and designing clothes. This was because I often had to rush to finish assignments for my major, and I also had to create works for external contests and club activities. However, if there is something I like more than making and designing clothes, it is “recycling” clothes. My true hobby is preparing clothes that I no longer wear, clothes that I have obtained through the Anabada movement, and clothes that I have purchased cheaply at wholesale markets, and then reforming and repairing them.
A hobby is something that you enjoy doing no matter how much time you spend on it, and it is something that you want to do. In that sense, I enjoy applying my own unique ideas to existing clothes to create new ones. When I remodel clothes, I usually use new materials and decorations that I don’t normally use to create completely different and unique products. Although the clothes I make are not entirely my own ideas, I am satisfied with them and sometimes give them as gifts to show them to those around me. People around me are sometimes taken aback by my gifts because of their unique designs, but they are always happy with them, saying that they are perfect for parties, stage performances, or costumes. Once, a friend who was in a play wore a costume I made on stage, and I felt really satisfied and proud of myself as a costume designer when I saw the performance.
Reason for applying and aspirations after joining the company
“An employee with many strengths”
I applied to your company as a recent college graduate. Although I am still young and lack experience, I meet the requirements for new employees at your company. First, your company requires applicants to have a major related to textiles or sales. In addition, applicants must have a TOEIC score of 800 or higher and a certain level of conversational ability. In addition, you have stated that you will give preference to unique individuals with special social experience. I believe that I possess all three of these qualities, which is why I applied to your company. First, I studied clothing at Chung-Ang University, where I gained a general knowledge of clothing and also studied clothing marketing and sales.
Believing that practical experience is more important than studying, I participated in clothing events and conducted promotional events. I also continued to study English during college and have a score of 830. In addition to English, I have not neglected my studies of other foreign languages. Specifically, I have studied Japanese and am now able to converse in Japanese. Although your company mainly requires English, I will be able to demonstrate my Japanese skills when necessary. In addition, as evidenced by my TOEIC score, I am capable of not only conversational English but also writing and reading. Finally, I have been studying theater since college and am currently performing in plays in the university district. Even though I have a separate job, I am passionate about theater and work as a theater actor without pay, which I believe fits the personality that your company is looking for.
