In this blog post, we will introduce how to effectively include practical skills suitable for finance jobs, such as finance and accounting, in your self-introduction letter based on the theory and field experience you have gained while majoring in business administration.
Growth
“The lesson of starting early in the morning”
My parents were early risers. My father would wake up early to go to the gas station and greet the early morning customers. My father, who ran a gas station, would start his day by managing the employees who arrived at work, checking sales, and checking the amount of fuel sold. He always worked hard, greeting customers who came in the morning with a cheerful smile. Seeing my father like that, I thought he was cool and decided that I wanted to be like him. However, in reality, it was not easy to wake up early and live an energetic life.
My mother always woke me up at 6 o’clock. She also sold yogurt and had to wake up early to deliver it to each household. My father and mother woke up at 5 o’clock and started work, and they exercised in the morning to make their day more meaningful. My mother prepared meals, and my father jumped rope. Then I would force myself to get up and follow my father to do morning exercises, and sometimes I would go jogging. After that, I would eat the breakfast my mother had prepared and leave the house with my father. My mother would leave for work a little later to deliver yogurt. Thanks to this family atmosphere, I always got up early in the morning even though it was difficult.
When I became a high school student, my habit of waking up early was a great help in my studies. I would wake up at 6 a.m., get ready for school, and arrive at school a little after 7 a.m. Compared to other students who arrived at school at 8:30 a.m., I had an extra hour to study. I used this time to prepare for the college entrance exam. I had a goal of majoring in business administration, and the university I wanted to attend was very competitive, so I always studied hard. In my senior year of high school, everyone was exhausted, but I was so used to getting up early that I was able to get up early and start studying. As a result, I was able to attend a prestigious business school that everyone wanted to go to.
The process of changing my personality
“Fear is just paranoia”
When I was young, I was very fearful. I couldn’t sleep alone at night because I was afraid that ghosts would come, and even during the day, I liked bright places and kept the lights on in my room. This was because I was afraid of dark and enclosed spaces. I was also very fearful of touching sharp objects and climbing high places. Not only that, but I was so afraid of insects that I would hide or couldn’t catch them with my hands.
It was in high school that I was able to overcome my timid personality. I found a counseling center at school and decided to seek help. At first, I wanted to talk about my career path, but as we talked, I ended up confiding in the counselor about my fears. The counselor told me that fear is just like a ghost. For example, in the Harry Potter series, there are creatures called Dementors that are the source of fear, and they terrify the children. However, I thought that the Dementors in the series were a representation of human fear. I realized that people are constantly trying to manipulate others through fear, and that it is up to each individual to break free from it.
Through your detailed explanations and kind counseling, I was able to escape from my fears. I came to think that my fears of darkness, insects, and pain were all delusions, like ghosts. After that, I tried to catch insects with my own hands and cut fruit with a sharp knife. I also tried to stay in a dark place with my eyes open for a long time. Then, like a lie, I realized that the things that had frightened me were nothing. In place of my fears, I gained confidence in myself and the belief that I could do anything. This experience allowed me to grow from a fearful person into someone who can overcome their fears.
Achievements
“My passion for work has improved my grades.”
When I was in college, I was studying business administration, but I felt a little frustrated that I wasn’t actually doing any management work. I wanted to get some practical experience in a real work environment. In business administration, you learn about financial management, business management, strategic management, and organizational management, so I decided to find a job where I could apply what I had learned. So, when I was a junior in college, I started working part-time at a pub near my school. At first, I was a waiter, but later I became a bartender, and eventually I became a manager.
Working as a manager at a pub gave me the opportunity to apply what I had learned. I was able to manage several part-time students and learn about organizational management, and I was able to apply my leadership skills. I also participated in meetings to establish sales strategies through strategic management and presented meaningful strategies. In terms of business management, the store manager and assistant manager did most of the work, but they often asked me for ideas on what changes were needed. So I explained what changes were needed for new events and promotions. My proactive efforts and abilities were rewarded with a high salary, which was a valuable experience.
It was a part-time job that felt like practical management training in the workplace. As a result, I was able to get better grades than in the previous semester while working at the bar and attending school at the same time. For example, I took a finance and accounting class that had a written exam. During the exam, I practiced writing long essays by applying my thoughts and experiences. I was able to write about my actual experiences, and my answers were evaluated as vivid and realistic, which resulted in high grades. As a result, I received good grades overall for the semester and was awarded a scholarship for my high grades in the following semester.
Reason for applying and desired position
“I am applying for a position in the management support department at Hyundai Motor Company.” I majored in business administration in college and have experience working as a manager at a bar. I didn’t start out as a manager, but worked as a waiter before gradually being promoted to budget management and financial management. I think I was able to advance much faster than other part-time employees thanks to my work skills. I was able to communicate smoothly with the branch manager and assistant manager. I was able to talk easily with older people as if they were my friends, and in the process, I was able to come up with meaningful ideas.
I showed my ambition by freely sharing my ideas for the development of the pub. I tried to be open about anything I thought could contribute to the organization, without thinking about pay or recognition. As a result, I was able to contribute a lot to promotions and planning new events. There were cases where sales skyrocketed thanks to my promotional ideas, and we were able to create a good image that attracted many part-time workers from outside the company. The branch manager highly evaluated my work performance in these areas and entrusted me with the important task of financial management. Therefore, I am confident that I am an employee who is recognized for my work performance, reliability, and interpersonal skills. If I am accepted at your company, I will work hard to become a trusted and promising member of the management support team.
