In this blog post, based on my childhood interest in food and my experience in the restaurant industry, I will introduce ways to effectively convey authenticity and professionalism in a food industry resume.
Growing up
When I was a child, my parents ran a restaurant franchise, and they always did their best to ensure the restaurant’s location, taste, and customer service were top-notch, and they achieved remarkable sales that even caught the attention of the head office. As a child, I had a vague idea that my mother and father would be even more successful if they opened their own restaurant, but my parents, who were cautious in everything they did and knew how to keep their promises, were able to develop a good working relationship with the head office and grow together. Occasionally, similar restaurants would spring up in the neighborhood, and they would engage in petty disputes, openly trying to steal customers from our restaurant. However, my parents never wavered and simply continued to provide the best service and food they could.
After short-term promotional events and strategies to attract customers faded, people always came back to our restaurant, and my parents, who worked silently in the kitchen, smiled quietly at me. Seeing the loyalty of our customers, which was quite different from my hasty predictions, I gained firm confidence in my parents’ abilities, and the head office felt the same way. Many people think that franchise stores and their headquarters are often based on an unreasonable system, but my parents’ store had an ideal balance of influence, and we took steps forward as partners to achieve mutual growth. This gave me a more active interest in the franchise industry, which I had previously had a vague dislike for, and allowed me to become immersed in it.
School life
Perhaps thanks to my parents’ cooking, I developed a keen sense of taste, and I often went out with my friends to find delicious food. Although I was a student and my options were limited, I wanted to deepen my understanding of the town where I had lived for so long, so I searched for and selected restaurants one by one, even in areas I would normally pass by without noticing, and gained a wealth of culinary experience. Even though some restaurants were very popular and well-known among people from outside the area, as a local, I often didn’t know about them, which made me realize that I should take more interest in and appreciate the place where I lived and was familiar with every day.
The adults around me advised me to put that passion into my studies, but I hadn’t yet entered the workforce, so I had the freedom to spend my time as I pleased and travel around. I felt that if I didn’t achieve my goal while I was still in school, I would regret it, so I worked even harder. My ultimate dream was to complete my own food map, collect my best collection, and introduce restaurants that I could proudly recommend to others. Some people might say that it wasn’t a goal worth spending so much of my daily life on, but I was always full of enthusiasm, and my friends recognized my passion, so I was able to achieve my personal goals step by step without rushing. I still have fond memories of this time.
Strengths and weaknesses
When I hear new information or interesting stories, I can’t help but act on them right away. My curiosity is the strongest motivation for me to devote myself to my work, so I have to take immediate action to satisfy my personal desire for achievement and curiosity. This tendency was mostly related to food, and after I took my first steps toward a career related to food under the influence of my parents, I became even more interested in it. This is because I am convinced that taste is a rich sensory experience that cannot be satisfied by any indirect stimulation, and that I cannot convey accurate information unless I go to the scene and check it for myself. This ability to take action, which amazes those around me, has also served as an opportunity to further highlight my presence.
However, I was told that I seemed to lack a little self-control, and that even if it was to satisfy my curiosity about work, I needed to be more flexible and set different priorities. This made me put the brakes on my actions a little.
Values
I believe that trust and commitment are essential for people to work together. When I was a child, my parents received many offers from various people to change their business, sign new franchise agreements, and sell their store due to their excellent sales performance. However, my parents always kept their promises with unwavering conviction, maintaining the trust of the head office. I knew that no matter how clearly mutual trust was stated in a contract, it was extremely difficult to uphold it, so I had a newfound admiration for my parents.
I also decided that no matter what I do, I want to be a person who keeps my promises and maintains trust. I have always felt a sense of responsibility to live a life that is honest and true, just like my parents, who have lived their lives with integrity.
Motivation and aspirations
When I was a child, my parents ran a restaurant franchise, and their remarkable sales and sincere fulfillment of contracts caught the attention of the head office, showing me firsthand what a mutually beneficial business relationship looks like. Until then, I had thought that the relationship between franchise stores and headquarters was an unreasonable system in which the former was exploited by the latter, but I gradually realized how beautiful it is to respect each other’s existence and fulfill contracts made in good faith. Your company operates a large number of franchise stores and has placed the utmost importance on trust-based management, which piqued my interest and led me to apply.
If I am given the opportunity to work for your company, I will treat all store owners who have signed franchise agreements with respect and esteem, responding with trust and confidence, just as I would treat my own parents. At that time, even though my parents had a store with considerable sales, they were able to continue operating without being swayed by any temptations or uncertainties because they had a long-standing contract and a deep mutual understanding and trust that had been forged over many years.
