How can I incorporate my laboratory work experience and quality control experience into my cover letter?

In this blog post, we will introduce how to write a cover letter suitable for a quality control position through specific examples, such as laboratory experience and preparation for qualifications.

Growth

“Do your best in your current position.”
As the third daughter of one son and three daughters, I grew up learning to be accommodating and friendly. Because I had a large family, I had to solve many problems on my own. This not only helped me develop problem-solving skills, but also became a foundation for my self-confidence. In high school, while others studied at cram schools and private tutors, I supplemented my education after school by watching EBS broadcasts. This relieved my parents of the burden of private education expenses and gave me confidence and independence through solving problems on my own.
My family’s motto is “Do your best in your current position.” Thanks to my parents’ teachings, I was able to think about what was most important in my position and how to achieve it, and then take action. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I was a diligent student with very few absences. I was also very active in school activities because I was a dedicated student.
From my first year of high school to my third year, I participated in an intensive learning program at school without missing a single day. As a result, I spent so much time at school that I can’t remember ever going home before 10 p.m. This helped me learn how to coordinate smoothly with those around me in a group setting. It also helped me feel a sense of belonging within an organization and encouraged me to be proactive. This influence continued after I entered university, where I participated in work activities at school, work experience programs during school vacations, and volunteer activities.

Activities inside and outside of school

“Sleepy mascot, wake up!”
When I entered university, I joined the student council of my department. I was given the important role of vice president, and I was responsible for promoting and preparing department events and field trips. This helped me become a person who takes initiative and looks out for others.
I got along well with most people in my department. Perhaps because of this, my seniors called me the mascot of the chemistry department. It is also a pleasant nickname from my college days. As my nickname suggests, people remember me as a cheerful person. So even on days when I am feeling down, when I am with other people, I feel a sense of duty to make them happy. I think this personality trait is my strength, which allows me to like people and be liked by them.
However, there is one weakness that negates this strength. That is my tendency to sleep in. I am well aware of this weakness, and I have been working hard to overcome it. After much trial and error, I found the method that works best for me, and I am still working on it. When I entered high school, I scheduled my first class and my school work schedule in the morning. This was a bit of a forced measure, but it was the most effective method for me. As a rule, I never allow myself to be late for class, so this was the perfect choice for me. During school breaks, I attended early morning English classes and scheduled my swimming and yoga classes in the morning. Overcoming this weakness has helped me become a morning person, which is very important in this day and age.
“Play when you play, and work when you work.”
During my college days, the department retreat was considered the highlight of the chemistry department. It required a lot of preparation and research. It was like a festival for not only undergraduate students but also graduate students, teaching assistants, and professors. The retreat was a valuable opportunity to drink and talk with professors. At that time, my professor said, “Have fun, now is the time. However, when you do something, you must take responsibility for your actions.” As a Catholic, these words resonated with me like a priest’s sermon.
I really played hard. I had 100% attendance at department events and field trips during the semester, and during vacation, I enjoyed yoga, swimming, and other sports. Then I devoted myself to my work. During vacation, I spent my days busy with work experience, part-time jobs, and volunteer work. During the semester, I always balanced my work with my undergraduate studies. It was hard, but it was fun. Meeting new people in various places and becoming friends with them was like a gift to me. Looking back now, I realize that as a result of working hard, studying hard, and living my life to the fullest, I was able to meet more people, experience more things, and gain deeper insights. With fond memories of my fun but intense college days, I am now filled with excitement for the future.
“The Slug Princess”
I heard a lot of advice from seniors who were struggling to find jobs in the student council, and I became interested in quality control at a pharmaceutical company. So I tried to gain a wide range of experience in the laboratory. When I became a junior, I started working on campus. My first job was in the general chemistry laboratory. I set up the lab so that first-year students could conduct experiments, and cleaned up after class. This role allowed me to become familiar with the laboratory and learn how to operate the equipment and safety precautions.
After that, I started working in the school administration department. I was offered the opportunity to continue working even after the fixed work period ended, but I wanted to work in the laboratory, so I apologetically declined the offer. I often saw the faculty members after that, and I remember them fondly as a warm department where I maintained relationships by greeting them and asking how they were doing.
At the beginning of my fourth year, I started working at the inorganic chemistry laboratory. My main role was to dispose of waste reagents and assist research assistants with their experiments. When preparing reagents, I made sure to weigh them accurately and align the mass cylinder with the scale before measuring. This was to minimize the impact of even the slightest error, and it helped me develop a meticulous attitude toward undergraduate experiments.
Finally, I assisted with administrative work in the physical chemistry laboratory. This experience taught me that laboratories are multi-system environments that involve both office work and experiments. These activities helped me develop the habit of carefully checking and confirming everything before conducting experiments. I also learned from my teaching assistants and professors that you cannot expect to get the results you want without following a thorough process. I believe that these experiences have broadened my analytical perspective, which is necessary for quality control, and will be of great help in facilitating community life. I have spent my days busy with quality control at a pharmaceutical company. I hope that my efforts will shine brightly at ○○○○.

Motivation for applying and career aspirations

“20○○, a year we want to create together.”
When I was young, I nursed my younger sibling who was hospitalized with pneumonia, and I felt gratitude and wonder toward medicine. That is why I dreamed of becoming someone who could help others. I have been thinking about how I can contribute to society through what I have learned in chemistry and help people live healthy lives, and that is how I came to quality control at a pharmaceutical company.
○○○○ contributes to healthy lives by providing consumers with familiar and excellent products ranging from medicines to health supplements, and is also continuously striving to develop new drugs. It is also a forward-looking company with a vision of “developing world-class new drugs and global marketing” and a clear sense of purpose for the future. I realized that ○○○○’s challenging attitude is no different from my passion to always become a better person, and I decided to apply here to pursue my dream.
Quality control of the final products that consumers encounter requires constantly determining whether the products meet consumer needs and striving to provide only high-quality products to consumers. Therefore, I believe that paying close attention to even small changes is essential for checking and improving the quality of products that can easily deteriorate. I was able to learn this kind of attention to detail through several laboratory work experiences, and I believe it will be an asset to ○○○○.
Quality control is based on GMP and has been developed through validation introduced in 2020, so I studied the purpose and contents of GMP in writing. In addition, computer skills such as Excel are necessary for documenting product verification, and I have acquired the Mos-Master certification to meet the requirements. My calm and meticulous personality is well suited to quality control, which requires repetitive but accurate work, and allows me to be more effective.
If I become a member of the company, I want to become an indispensable person. Therefore, I will continue to focus on self-improvement even after joining the company. I plan to obtain chemical analyzer and quality control engineer certifications early next year. I believe that this will broaden my perspective on analyzing materials and provide me with an opportunity to learn quality control in a more systematic manner. In this way, I hope to contribute not only to myself but also to ○○○○.
In addition, I will set goals for myself and work hard to become a passionate and motivated person. The next 20 years are a period in which ○○○○ aims to expand into a wider world, and I hope to see sales growth and further expansion. The goal of quality control in the manufacturing process is to check that no problems have occurred in the production process of pharmaceuticals, to confirm the quality of products during the production process, and to minimize waste by discarding products with quality defects. Through meticulous and thorough quality control, I will help maximize profits with minimal waste and contribute to demonstrating the strength of ○○○○ in the global market. In addition, we are investing in cGMP facilities in order to capture markets beyond Asia and into Europe and the United States, so I will study cGMP standards and contribute to the future development of ○○○○.
For the first five years after joining the company, I will always show a hard-working attitude with the mindset of a new employee. I am someone who believes that hard work never betrays you. I still have many areas that need improvement, but I will work hard to fill in the gaps. Thank you very much.
