How to stand out in your ground crew application essay?

In this blog post, we will introduce practical tips on how to effectively highlight your unique strengths in your ground crew application essay.

Background

When I was young, my parents often came home late or didn’t come home at all because of work. I have three younger sisters and one younger brother, and I used to play with my younger brother all the time, but when I saw him get hurt, I felt responsible and realized that what I was doing was wrong. My parents always emphasized that I cannot live alone in this world and that I must cherish my family. They also told me that I must live with others in consideration of them, just as I cherish and love my family. I think they said this because, as the eldest child, they wanted me to love my siblings and strengthen our bond. Since the youngest was injured, we grew up in harmony without any major fights. I think this was the result of my willingness to give in to my siblings and put them first, and their gratitude toward me, which made them want to take care of me first. Through this process of growing up, I believe I was able to develop a sense of responsibility as the eldest child and a mindset that allows me to embrace and accept everything with love. The five of us siblings had a common interest: curiosity about other countries. At first, when I was doing my homework, my younger siblings would pester me to play with them, so to distract them, I took out a world map and played a game of finding countries. My siblings became very curious about those countries, so I researched them and taught them about them, and before I knew it, we were all talking about what life would be like in other countries. Later, we enjoyed this time so much that we would look at globes and world maps, memorize the capitals and flags of each country, and quiz each other. Perhaps because of this, all five of us are now involved in travel-related work. Two of my sisters are currently studying abroad in Australia, and another is traveling around the world as a travel writer. My younger brother works for a foreign company and is an international businessman. Finally, I joined your company with the hope of traveling around Korea to my heart’s content.

School days

As the eldest child, I have a strong sense of responsibility, so I showed leadership qualities from elementary school. I made plans and assigned roles to everyone, and everyone followed my lead, so I had many friends who looked up to me like my younger siblings. This trend continued in middle and high school, but because I liked my friends so much, I often neglected my studies. I also traveled whenever I had time, which I think also had a negative impact on my studies. After failing to get into college, I wandered aimlessly for a while. All my friends were college students enjoying the cherry blossoms in March, but for me, it was a painful month. My mother suggested that I take a short trip to clear my head, so I decided to visit my grandmother in Jeju Island. It wasn’t my first time on an airplane, but on that day, the flight attendants seemed so kind. I was overwhelmed with gratitude toward the flight attendants who greeted me with bright smiles despite my feelings of defeat at failing to get into college. The same was true on the flight back from Jeju Island. At that moment, I realized that it was too early to give up. I began to prepare step by step to become a flight attendant, dreaming of becoming a flight attendant who could give hope to customers. Once I found something I wanted to do, I became extremely passionate and studied with enthusiasm. As a result, I was able to enroll in an aviation program. Even after entering college, I continued to study hard and prepare to become a great flight attendant. I thought that language skills would be necessary, so I started with English, and when I had acquired a reasonable level of basic skills, I started learning Chinese. Currently, I am fluent in English and Chinese. As you can see, my school days were filled with passion for becoming a flight attendant. However, I had an accident right after graduation, and although I made a full recovery, I was unable to become a flight attendant.

Strengths and weaknesses

I enjoy challenging myself to overcome limitations. I believe this stems from my self-confidence. I believe in my abilities, so I can confidently take on any challenge. Achieving goals requires a lot of effort. I believe that “effort leads to the best results,” so I do my best. However, effort does not always lead to success. Even if the result of a challenge is failure, I believe that I have always grown one step further in the process of challenging myself. In the process of thinking about the causes of failure and analyzing what I need to improve, I find that I have grown. Above all, through thinking, I worked hard to overcome my limitations during my rehabilitation process and ultimately succeeded. Furthermore, I am not the type of person who takes the lead in my relationships with friends. I am not outgoing or a leader, but I am the type of person who quietly helps the team succeed by creating a good atmosphere. I believe that this is why the people around me trust me. Although I am not a leader, one of my talents is my ability to share the team’s goals with my teammates and encourage them to achieve them with confidence.

Career history (or experience that demonstrates your work abilities)

During my year in the hospital and rehabilitation, I learned to play Go to control my weak mind. I think the beauty of Go lies in acquiring the wisdom to see ahead. After I first encountered Go, I bought a textbook because I wanted to become good at it. However, reading books did not make me good at Go. I played thousands of games by myself, following the book. I am still an amateur, as it is just a hobby, but I am continuing to work hard to become a better player. I enjoy playing online games, and I practice reading my opponents’ minds while playing Go. This is so that I can respond with better strategy than my opponents. I think I continue to play Go because of the thrill I get when I read my opponent’s moves. The broad perspective and quick thinking I have gained from playing Go will be a great asset to your company.

Motivation for applying and aspirations

Oprah Winfrey once said, “Confidence in your body, mind, and spirit is the driving force that keeps you searching for new adventures, new growth, and new lessons, and that is what life is all about.”
I was injured in both body and mind due to an accident, but I never gave up. I was able to persevere because I had confidence that I could ultimately succeed. If I had doubted myself and given in to weakness, I would not be where I am today. I have been preparing to become the best flight attendant possible. I have acquired the knowledge required of a flight attendant, as well as practical knowledge through actual flight attendant experience. However, I am now unable to become a flight attendant. Nevertheless, I could not give up on my efforts to become a flight attendant. That is why I am applying to your company, which is like a flight attendant on the ground.
If I am hired by your company, I will actively utilize my abilities and work hard to improve myself so that I can become a driving force for growth that will benefit both you and me. In today’s globalized society, I believe that KTX is the best way to save people time when traveling on land. I will do my best to provide the best service possible.
