In this blog post, we will introduce ways to effectively convey your professional knowledge as a pharmacy major in your self-introduction letter, turning it into a competitive advantage in the sales field rather than just background information.
Background
“A young father who never lost his dreams”
My father spent his childhood in France. He traveled extensively around the world, visiting almost every country. Watching my father, I felt his flexibility and open-mindedness, which were unlike those of people of his generation, and spending time with him made me decide that I too wanted to become a person who travels the world. My father is a chocolatier. His job was to develop new food products by combining chocolate and wine, and he was a promising dessert chef who was more recognized abroad than in Korea. Thanks to my father, I was able to experience a feast for the taste buds by tasting not only foreign foods but also various ingredients and desserts. In any case, I loved and respected my father’s professional spirit and his way of thinking that allowed him to get along with people from all over the world.
As I grew up, I wanted to become a recognized expert in my field, just like my father. So, I decided to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry, and because I was interested in pharmacology, I enrolled in a pharmacy college. I wanted to work for a private company rather than a general hospital and make a name for myself as a professional pharmacist, and my father gave me his full support and encouragement. First, my father offered to help me enroll in the college of my choice. He told me to take extra classes or hire a tutor if I needed help, and he was willing to support me in any way he could with my studies. Thanks to my father’s unconditional support, I was able to enroll in the department of my choice at the university I wanted to attend. My father, who never lost sight of his dreams and always talked to me like a friend, and who supported my dreams just as he did his own, continues to be a great source of strength for me.
Strengths and weaknesses
“I handle things calmly and wisely.”
At first, I am very shy, so people who meet me for the first time tend to think that I am quiet. However, once I get to know someone a little, they quickly realize that I am not so quiet. The reason is that I am shy at first, but after that, I express myself clearly and show my sense of humor by mixing in funny comments. However, it takes me a while to become close to people because I am somewhat cautious in my interpersonal relationships. When people meet, communicate, and form relationships, it is easy for discord to arise if you are too casual. So, I tend to observe people I meet for the first time to see how I should treat them. I try not to do things that they dislike and show them that I like them in order to build a smooth relationship.
In this way, I can say that I am wise because I am cautious when meeting new people. I am even more cautious when it comes to work than with relationships. I believe that I am solely responsible for the work and responsibilities assigned to me, and that any problems that arise will affect how I am evaluated as a person. Therefore, I do my best to avoid mistakes in my work, even if it means considering the opinions of those around me, and I always try to remain calm and collected in the process. When I take a step back and observe, I can see the direction and purpose of the work I am responsible for, and I can see how I can achieve good results in the future, so I try not to get excited or emotional. That is why I always try to remain calm in my work and relationships and be a wise person.
School life
“Studying pharmacology in the medicinal herb research club.”
When I was in college, I joined a medicinal herb research club in the pharmacy department and participated in academic club activities. There were more than five academic clubs in our pharmacy department, and it was important to participate in club activities. So I spent most of my college life participating in club activities, and I devoted my energy to collecting information on medicinal herbs and conducting field trips. My favorite subject was mountain herbology. Through mountain herb studies, I learned about the grasses and mountain herbs that grow in the mountains and fields of Korea. I also studied pharmacology, which is the study of making medicinal products using native medicinal herbs, herbal medicines, and medicinal herbs. In the process, I gathered information on well-known medicinal herbs and medicines such as mugwort, reishi mushroom, yugunpi, angelica, cnidium, polygonum, zanthoxylum, and hamcho-hwan. I participated in the process of manufacturing these into healthy foods, powders, and breakfast foods, which was a valuable experience that allowed me to learn about the production process of health supplements.
Hobbies/Special Skills
“Cake maniac, making cakes.”
I am a self-proclaimed cake maniac. I love cakes so much that I travel around visiting famous cake cafes in different regions, and I know a lot about cake menus. There are many types of cakes, including pancakes, crepe cakes, roll cakes, sponge cakes, chiffon cakes, gateaux, ice cream cakes, mousse cakes, rice cakes, steamed cakes, and pound cakes. I am skilled enough to make half of these types of cakes. In particular, rolls, crepes, mousse cakes, and pound cakes are easy to make with just a few ingredients. The ingredients I mainly use when making cakes are unsalted butter, eggs, cake flour, baking powder, milk, sponge cake sheets, gelatin, and lemon juice. It is very easy to buy ready-made sheets, but it is fun to make your own dough and adjust the ingredients to create sheets with your desired flavor.
Ingredients for the cake sheets include carrots, sweet potatoes, strawberries, walnuts, blueberries, apples, Earl Grey powder, cinnamon powder, cacao powder, and pumpkin. I especially like carrots and pumpkin. Cake sheets that are too sweet can be overwhelming when decorated, so I prefer carrot cake, which has a moderate sweetness and unique flavor. Once I make the sheets, I decorate them with fresh cream, chocolate cream, fruit, cream cheese, powdered sugar, whipped cream, chocolate chips, sour cream, ganache, cashews, mango puree, and other ingredients. I have tried many different combinations of these ingredients, but fruit, cream cheese, and powdered sugar are the ones I use most often. My hobby is to create new cakes that appeal to everyone’s taste buds by combining fruit, cream cheese, and whipped cream, and then serving them to people.
Motivation for applying and aspirations
“A pharmaceutical professional with a medical mindset”
I majored in pharmacy at university and became interested in pharmacology and herbal medicine, which led me to decide to work in the field of traditional pharmaceutical products. Your company manufactures health supplements using traditional medicinal herbs and is looking for people to participate in new business ventures. That is why I applied to your company, and I believe that I will be able to adapt to specific tasks by utilizing the knowledge I have acquired and mastered. In particular, I believe that employees of pharmaceutical companies must have the attitude of a medical professional. My goal goes beyond simply making good health supplements and selling them in large quantities. I want to help consumers who use medicines improve their health and prevent illness. If I am fortunate enough to work for your company, I would like to use traditional Korean medicinal herbs, herbal medicines, and herbal preparations to create foods that can be enjoyed by the general public.
