I grew up in Seoul, but there were mountains near my house, so I’ve loved hiking since I was a kid. After meals, I would follow my grandfather as he went out for a walk in the mountains, and I have been climbing mountains since I was so young that I cannot remember. When I was in kindergarten, I remember climbing mountains every Saturday and Sunday morning, holding my grandfather’s hand as he went to fetch spring water. I don’t remember when I first reached the summit, but mountain climbing was a part of my family’s daily routine.
My grandfather believed that studying was a hobby, but health was essential, so the whole family enjoyed exercising. In addition to mountain climbing, badminton was a sport that the whole family enjoyed on weekends. I grew up in an environment where the family became closer through exercise, playing games to decide who would make lunch or dinner.
I played badminton since I was a child, and when I was in elementary school, I dreamed of becoming a badminton player. However, I realized early on that liking sports and being good at them are two different things, so I decided to make exercise a hobby that would give me energy in my daily life.
I grew up with a cheerful personality thanks to my lively and energetic family. Led by my grandfather, my parents understood the importance of family and always worked hard to create a harmonious home where everyone encouraged and supported each other during difficult times. Therefore, family birthdays and holidays were like family events where even family members who lived far away would gather together.
Growing up in a large family with my grandfather at the center, I learned good manners as the eldest son who respected my elders and took good care of my younger siblings.
Having grown up knowing the importance of a harmonious family that always supported me, I now have a greater sense of responsibility and am devoted to my own family.
School life
“Acquired both technical and theoretical knowledge through a technical college and a four-year university transfer program”
I have wanted to go to an engineering college since I was a child because I like working with machines, so I chose to study mechanical engineering at a technical college. I wanted to receive practical training and start my career early. Through my classes, I studied both mechanical and electrical engineering, including the development and improvement of new machines and engineering analysis. I gained a wide range of knowledge about machines, from the operating principles of numerous machines used in our daily lives to the manufacture of industrial machines used in factories.
After graduating from college, I joined XX Machinery, where I was responsible for managing electrical components and product manufacturing equipment for food processing production lines, as well as overall maintenance of the machines operating in the factory and repairing any problems that arose. As it was a small company, I also handled customer relations while working on the shop floor. As I met with clients and did some work in the administration department, I realized that I lacked knowledge about management and sales, so I decided to supplement my education.
I transferred to a four-year university to study business administration at night, and at first I worked while studying. However, I ended up neglecting my studies, so I quit my job after a year of working and studying, and spent my final year of college focusing on my studies and acquiring the knowledge and theory I wanted in economics and business administration. Although I started studying late in life, I was able to study with the support of many people who, like me, had social experience before enrolling in night school.
Strengths and weaknesses
“Finish what you start, and praise others.”
Once I set my mind to something, I have the tenacity to see it through to the end. During my practical training in college, I had trouble getting the machine to work the way I wanted, but I couldn’t give up because I had to submit my assignment by the next class. So, I asked the teaching assistant for permission and stayed up all night in the lab to finish the assignment. Thanks to my hard work and concentration, I was praised by my professor for my thoroughness.
I am someone who gives compliments easily. When I receive compliments, I feel more energized and work harder, so I understand how compliments can motivate people. That’s why I try to make people feel good by praising them for even the smallest things. I praise them for a job well done and compliment them on their strengths, which helps me maintain good relationships with everyone. When I was working at my previous company, I was recognized as a model employee for maintaining good relationships with my colleagues and encouraging them to do their best.
Career
“Technical sales, excellent customer relationship management”
After transferring to a different university and obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I joined OO Technology Co., Ltd. My main duties were to develop new customers and manage existing customers for products such as DC guard motors, air motors, BLDC motors (30W small BLDC), step motors, and step driver servo motors used in industrial, medical, and home applications.
The existing clients I took over had a chronic problem with late payments. Therefore, I developed a plan to invest more time in customer management for more reasonable customer management, and I visited customers whenever I had the opportunity to go nearby after work. I believed that harmonious relationships in the workplace can be built by helping others outside of work, so I showed my sincerity by helping out on the production line when the company was short-handed, which made my relationships with the company much more flexible.
As a result, I achieved a collection rate of 80% from companies that had always been late in paying, and expanded the sales area to Ansan and Jukjeon in Gyeonggi Province, discovering new business partners.
