How many things does South Korea rank first in the world? Traveling to various countries and studying languages abroad, I realized that I had to accept the fact that South Korea is a small country. The United Kingdom has a rich culture and developed potential based on its early industrial revolution, while the United States has become a powerful country based on its rational mindset, reasonable enterprising spirit, and tremendous technological capabilities and capital. And then there is Japan, with its unique and sophisticated technology. Traveling to various countries, I couldn’t help but recognize how big and wide the world is, and I sometimes felt that being Asian and a woman was a hindrance, which made me despair over my limitations and shortcomings. That is why I deeply understand how amazing it is to be ranked number one in the world. That is why I think my desire to join Doosan, a world-class company, is a little different from what other people might think. I am more desperate than they are. It is my greatest ambition to join Doosan, a company that has become the world leader in equipment manufacturing in this small country. Therefore, I studied with the sole purpose of joining Doosan, and I graduated. I believe that joining Doosan, which has become the world leader in this small country, will change my world. My ambition and desire is to work for the greater good, even if it is just one job. I would like to join your company, experience the wider world, learn new skills, and become an engineer who can spread my wings around the world. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction was established in September 1962 as Hyundai Yanghang, and in 1976, it began construction of a comprehensive machine factory in Changwon. In 1976, it received an order for power generation equipment from GE in the US, the first of its kind in Korea, and in 1978, it entered the seawater desalination business. Since then, it has continued to grow, accumulating titles as the first in Korea in various fields. In October 1980, the company changed its name to Korea Heavy Industries, and in 1981, it absorbed and merged with Korea Electric Power Maintenance Corporation. In 1982, the Changwon Plant, the world’s largest single plant, was completed and was selected as the “Power Plant of the Year” by the US Department of Energy. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is a company with deep roots and solid growth. That is why it needs skilled professionals. I delved into the heavy industry design sector and focused on Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in particular. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction possesses original technologies in the fields of power generation and desalination plants. It also has a comprehensive system covering the entire process from design to production, manufacturing, and commissioning. In the power generation equipment sector, it manufactures major equipment such as nuclear reactors, steam generators, and turbine generators, and since 1990, it has been exporting nuclear power plant equipment to the United States, the world’s leading nuclear power country. I believe that this is the company that needs to develop the most for the future and the technology that needs to be developed the most. I believe that the job I am applying for is that important, and I will work hard to become a talented person who can contribute to the future of Doosan.
My strengths and weaknesses
“An open mind that believes anything is possible”
My strength is my open mind that believes anything is possible. Not long ago, there was a rumor that you had to know Chinese to join Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. Everyone was wondering how they could learn Chinese in only six months. I had never studied Chinese before, but I knew I had to do it. I thought that even if it was only six months, I could improve a little if I studied. So, while others gave up, I started learning Chinese. I was busy studying and working part-time for my job, but I enjoyed learning a completely new subject and language. After six months of intense study, I was able to obtain a Level 3 certificate. Everyone said I had indomitable willpower, but I just did what I had to do. In this way, I tend to think that what people think is impossible is actually possible, so I just go ahead and do it. Rather than being a hindrance to taking on new challenges, I think this personality trait has been a stepping stone that has spurred me on.
On the other hand, the downside of my personality is that I am a perfectionist. I have a personality that requires me to do everything written in my notebook, so I tend to be obsessed with my notebook and my plans, and I also tend to easily give up things like physical health and sleep in order to follow my plans. I believe physical fitness is important, so I want to become a person who exercises and carries out my plans. I will strive to develop my perfectionism into meticulousness so that it will have a positive influence on others.
Growth
“Getting along with people and helping them”
What has helped me grow, both as a child and now, is nothing other than “people.” When I was young, I was paired with a friend with a disability for three years. I don’t think I helped my friend, but rather that my friend helped me. Living a smooth life, I could have easily seen only one side of life, but by seeing things from my friend’s perspective and feeling what he felt, I realized that there are many different kinds of lives and that there are things that I cannot do. That is why I am one of those people who believe that those of us who are physically healthy should volunteer, and that healthy people should donate. Through volunteer work, I wanted to interact with various people and, despite my limited abilities, become someone who could help others. In high school, I also met a rival like no other. We were always one place apart in our grades, but as we talked and grew together, we became reliable rivals who looked out for each other’s grades and grew together. Even after entering university, I met many different people and realized that there is no such thing as “wrong” in life, only “different,” and I learned how to get along with different people.
Career aspirations
“It’s what I love to do, and I can work really hard at it.”
The subject I studied most passionately was none other than “design.” When I entered the Department of Mechanical Engineering, I went out to various sites for practical training despite being a woman, and I found design to be the most interesting. All designs apply the most advanced academic theories as much as possible, mainly using formulas necessary for design calculations. I believed that it was reasonable to not just work based on ideas, but to work through everything using the most advanced calculations. I found it interesting to be meticulous in designing various products and machines based on data obtained from many examples, experiences, and experiments, and I felt a sense of satisfaction when everything came together in the end. That is why design is my favorite thing to do, and it is the area in which I am most confident in my abilities. I can work really hard because it is what I love to do. I will grow and work hard so that I can be proud to be a member of Doosan. Thank you very much!
