In this blog post, we will introduce the experiences that applicants preparing for bank internships should emphasize in their self-introduction letters and how to effectively express those experiences.
Growth process
Overcoming my own limitations.
I am color blind in one eye. I wasn’t born that way, but my brother accidentally poked my eye with an umbrella. Fortunately, my vision was restored, but I still cannot see colors with one eye, so when I look at something with both eyes, the colors appear blurry or different. I didn’t think color blindness would have a big impact on my daily life, but as a boy, I was very disappointed that I couldn’t participate in sports events or outdoor activities that required distinguishing colors. As a result, I naturally became distant from my brother. My brother was also young and didn’t mean to hurt me, so he naturally distanced himself from me. I didn’t want to get close to him either. However, I felt that if we continued like this, the only brothers I had would drift apart, and no matter how successful I became in life, I would not be happy. So I told my brother that I was sorry. I apologized for playing with his umbrella and for teasing him for no reason and not being able to get out of the way. He cried and hugged me, and our relationship was restored. In a way, these experiences could be considered traumatic. However, I believe that overcoming them helped me mature and learn how to form and maintain relationships with others. Based on our brotherly love, we encouraged and inspired each other and grew up together.
Success and failure experiences
What I learned through external activities
I participated in many external activities. I worked diligently in various fields, including as a member of the press corps, a supporter, a reporter, and even a photographer. Through these various activities, I learned about what it means to be a leader. The first external activity I started was one where the leader was busy with his own work. We had to interview small and medium-sized companies, write articles based on those interviews for a blog, and make videos, but the leader who was supposed to lead the project was so busy preparing for his transfer that he didn’t pay any attention to the group. So we had to contact the people involved ourselves, and sometimes our contacts got mixed up and we couldn’t do the interviews at all. That experience made me realize how important the leader’s role is, so from then on, I made sure to hold meetings and put a lot of thought into selecting a leader. Once the leader was selected, I supported and encouraged them unconditionally and led the activities. When I was younger, I always supported the leader and those above me, and when I was elected leader around the time I graduated from college, I always put the meetings and activities first, even when I was busy with my work. Through my activities as a supporter, I was able to communicate with various people, get to know them, and enjoy myself while actively participating in the activities. Through my external activities, which included both successes and failures, I was able to experience maintaining order within an organization and leading and serving people.
A time I would like to return to
It was a choice between two options, but I always regret the path I did not take.
When I was a freshman in college, one of my philosophy professors saw my assignment and suggested that I go to China. At the time, I was majoring in business administration but was taking philosophy classes, and I was fascinated by the humanities, so I had decided to double major. I worked hard at writing and studying until I graduated from college and earned my double major. In any case, seeing that I had set goals for my life and was working toward them, my professor wanted me to go with him to China to do volunteer work and write a book. However, after thinking about it, I decided that rather than leaving the world right away and immersing myself in theory and ideas, I wanted to experience the world more before going to China. So, I decided not to go to China and stay in Korea instead, and I thought I had to live harder since I was giving up that opportunity. So, while other students did one extracurricular activity per semester, I did three or four, and on my days off, instead of just staying at home, I tried to travel to broaden my horizons and experience new things. I tried to enjoy life to the fullest. But now that I think about it, I really regret not going. However, based on that experience, I think I was able to live my daily life more fully. If there is a moment I want to go back to, it would be that moment, but I don’t regret my choice now.
Proposals for establishing corporate status
Banks should benefit ordinary citizens more
It is good to have large investors, but I think it is the opinions of ordinary citizens that ultimately determine a company’s image. This is because I believe that small investors like me come together to determine the image of a company. In particular, I don’t think there is any group as influential as the general public when it comes to determining a company’s image. That’s why I think banks should give back a lot to the public. I believe that this will enable KB Kookmin Bank to move forward, become a company that is more accessible to the public, and truly become a bank for the people. That’s why I came up with the idea of a savings account. Bank accounts and debit cards are undoubtedly the most popular financial products among the general public. I think it would be a good idea to diversify the types of bank accounts and divide them into categories such as those for people who receive pocket money, those who work part-time, those who receive a monthly salary, and those who receive public funds, so that people can receive and spend their money at KB Kookmin Bank and enjoy benefits tailored to their individual circumstances. In particular, if people who receive public funds can confirm this with their passbook and provide proof, they could be given other benefits free of charge, and people who receive a monthly salary could be given benefits according to the amount they receive. I think that this would make KB Kookmin Bank much more accessible to a wide range of people, and that they would do more business with the bank as a result. In addition, if check cards can be used not only at amusement parks and restaurants but also at convenience stores and small and medium-sized enterprises, rather than large companies, I think it will be a way to support small and medium-sized enterprises and KB Kookmin Bank.
Reason for applying
What KB Kookmin Bank means to me
For me, KB Kookmin Bank first came to mind as a place associated with university. This is because there is a KB Kookmin Bank branch in my school, where students can get a KB Kookmin Bank check card along with their student ID card. Using a check card for the first time in my life made me realize that I had become a university student. Since then, KB Kookmin Bank has come to mean “welfare” to me. As a college student, the benefits KB Kookmin Bank gave me allowed me to enjoy things I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy otherwise. I used my points and benefits wisely, and was able to enjoy going to amusement parks and movie theaters with my friends more often, which allowed me to make good memories with good people. Since then, I have been listening to news about welfare programs run by KB Kookmin Bank, and sometimes I apply to participate in programs that recruit volunteers to visit child welfare centers. Through these experiences, I have come to believe that KB Kookmin Bank cares deeply about the welfare of the people and gives back a lot to the community. Based on this, when I decided to apply for an internship, KB Kookmin Bank was the only bank I considered. Seeing how the various systems and welfare programs I experienced work up close, I want to give back to KB Kookmin Bank, and I want to work and participate sincerely with that in mind. If given the opportunity, I promise to be a fresh and sincere employee, even if I am not very good at it, based on my experience and what I have learned through my external activities. Thank you very much.
