When I first started studying abroad, I was in a very difficult situation. I worked hard to save money for my studies, but it cost more than I expected, and I had to ask my parents for help. However, my parents were also in a difficult financial situation, so I asked many of my friends for help and they gave me the money. I still remember how uncomfortable I felt at that time, and I can still remember the tears I shed. On top of that, it was my first time studying abroad and my first time visiting a foreign country, and I had to think about that while also solving financial issues and studying. I felt completely lost. Everything was uncertain, and I wasn’t confident that I would be able to speak English properly. I think the shock came from being in such an anxious state. When the flight took off, all kinds of thoughts ran through my mind, and I felt suffocated and couldn’t breathe. I was clutching my chest in agony. I think I lost consciousness for a moment.
When I opened my eyes, a flight attendant was standing in front of me. She looked tired, but she continued to take care of me. When I got up, I was wearing comfortable clothes, and I was able to breathe easily. The flight attendant smiled warmly and asked me various questions, such as, “How old are you? Where are you going? What do you want to do?” I can’t tell you how warm those questions sounded to me. As I answered each question, my goals became clear. I didn’t want to wander aimlessly anymore. I decided to pull myself together and adapt to life as an international student. When I told the flight attendant, she said that it must have been a difficult decision, but that I would do well. Her smile left a deep impression on me and became a source of strength and courage. With the energy from that smile, I started my study abroad program, and I was able to start well and finish well. On the flight back home after completing my study abroad program, I decided that I wanted to become a flight attendant like her. I wanted to be responsible for people’s safety and take care of the plane carrying their dreams and hopes with a beautiful but firm smile. With such a heavy responsibility, I knew I had to become a professional. I had many part-time jobs at bakeries and cafes. As a result, I often met a wide variety of people. Some were very rude, throwing money at the cash register, while others, such as elderly people, would stand at the door and order various items and ask us to bring them to them. Some people kept changing their orders, making my work more complicated, and others made complaints for no reason, embarrassing me. Even when dealing with such people, I never got annoyed or treated them rudely. Especially after studying abroad, I always thought of myself as a flight attendant when dealing with people, so I considered it part of my training. However, I happened to see a female employee on Facebook. She was working at a bakery and was feeding bread to homeless people, and someone took a picture of her and posted it online. I was shocked when I saw that. I had told homeless people to wait outside because other customers would be uncomfortable, and I had given them leftover bread, but I had never torn off pieces with my hands and fed them to them. Looking at that woman, I realized that this was true service, genuine service, and I reflected on my own behavior. So, when I started my part-time job and did other jobs, I always tried to provide genuine service, keeping in mind the attitude of that friend. And when I joined your company, I will strive to provide genuine service and become a flight attendant who does their best to ensure that customers are comfortable from head to toe. “Let’s provide meticulous service.”
After my experience, I had a different mindset when I started working in customer service. One time, I was working part-time at a restaurant when I noticed a customer who looked unwell. They were a couple in their 40s who had come to enjoy their wedding anniversary, but they didn’t look well, and the wife in particular seemed to be in a lot of pain. I wanted to go over and ask them if they were okay, but I thought it would be rude to mention their appearance to a woman. So, I stopped what I was doing and brought them some water first. I thought I should create a comfortable environment for them to eat, so I brought them warm water and asked if they would like to eat if they felt better. I also told them that we had digestive medicine available if they felt sick. Her husband then said that he was actually feeling unwell and asked me to bring him some. I gave him the digestive medicine and asked the kitchen to prepare the softest dishes they could. When they left, they recommended me as an excellent employee and sent an email to my company saying that I was a wonderful employee. At that moment, I realized the importance of providing service while looking at people’s faces. Rather than providing service out of habit, I realized that I needed to look at people’s faces in order to provide attentive service and determine what they needed at that moment. Since then, I have been committed to providing attentive service and always try to read the expressions on my customers’ faces.
Goals after joining the company and outlook on life

I wondered what kind of flight attendant I should become if I joined the company. I was happy while thinking about it, but I was also worried about what kind of person I should become and what kind of flight attendant I should be. Then I decided to go back to the beginning, and I remembered the flight attendant who gave me courage. I remembered the words, actions, and smile of that flight attendant who comforted me with warm words when I was afraid and had not yet experienced society. When I remembered that, I became determined. That is because I wanted to be just like that person.
I believe that the most beautiful thing ever created by humans is the airplane. Its flexible, slender, and streamlined body is beautiful, but what makes it truly beautiful is that it carries people’s dreams and hopes. Everyone has a reason for flying. You just get on a bus or a taxi, but when you fly, it’s for a reason, such as going to work, meeting someone, seeing a loved one, studying, or searching for your dreams. That is why flight attendants are so important. I believe that flight attendants are the ones who keep those dreams and hopes alive. If I am hired, I will be the one to protect those dreams and hopes. I will be an employee who works responsibly with a bright smile and a strong determination. Thank you very much.
