In this blog post, we will explain in detail how you can effectively incorporate data-based thinking and analysis experience into your marketing self-introduction.
Growth
As a child, I enjoyed collecting newspaper clippings and dreamed of becoming a reporter from an early age. Even if I didn’t understand everything, I would take the newspaper my father read every day, look up words in the dictionary, and read all the articles. Reading the colorful articles filled with various opinions on daily events and records was a lot of fun for me. Influenced by my parents, who loved books, I had a tendency to be addicted to reading from an early age, but I was more interested in writing that touched on aspects of reality than fairy tales and novels, which often dealt with fictional worlds far removed from my life, so my tastes changed and I became a child who enjoyed reading newspapers every day. Even on a normal day spent going back and forth between school, home, snack bars, and cram school, whenever I thought about how somewhere in the world, major events were happening and disappearing, I felt a sense of distance from the world I lived in.
Not only was the earth vast, but even in Korea, which is considered relatively small, countless events occurred and disappeared without my knowledge, and whenever I realized that there were people who wanted to meticulously record and preserve every single one of those events, I felt compelled to join them. For example, something that makes someone feel sad or happy and want to share it with the whole world may be completely unknown to someone else far away. In order to overcome physical distances and bring together countless events and information from around the world, there has always been a need for people who can quickly get to the scene and vividly capture the atmosphere there.
School days
It was a time when I had already decided on my dream of working in the media and was doing everything I could to pursue that career path. Since childhood dreams can change frequently, my parents did not take my statement that I wanted to work for a newspaper seriously. However, when my desire persisted for over a year, they asked me seriously if it was really what I wanted to do. They told me that they would do their best to support me no matter what my dream was, but they also emphasized that in order to work in the media, I would have to study harder than others and develop my skills to perfection. This was because studying was essential for me to achieve my ideal future of working hard and successfully at a media company.
Among children whose dreams changed several times a day, I was determined to pursue my goal persistently, and I tried my best to study without being distracted by other things. This was because I was already firmly convinced that I could succeed in the field I wanted to pursue. Even if I couldn’t be a reporter in the spotlight, I believed that I would find great joy in playing a supporting role behind the scenes, laying the groundwork for articles that would convey various events around the world to readers and present a broader perspective on issues from multiple angles. I have a deep love for the media and wanted to be the best reader possible, so I had an inherent desire to play an active role in ensuring that the media functioned properly.
Strengths and weaknesses
When I find a field that interests me or that I want to learn more about, I tend to search for as much related knowledge and documentation as possible and try to build up a foundation of basic knowledge and information in my mind. I believe that in order to acquire knowledge and use it fully, it is important to put it into practice, but I also think it is very important to establish a foundation of prior knowledge by simulating the process in your mind. Even if two people are equally inexperienced and embarking on the same journey, the results will inevitably differ between someone who has already accumulated relevant techniques and know-how in their mind and someone who has to rely solely on their instincts. I respect the pioneers who have gained many lessons from their experiences and achievements before me, and I want to take their advice seriously.
Some people criticize me for placing too much importance on written knowledge rather than experiential knowledge, saying that I am too much of a bookworm, but I believe that the right balance between brain activity and physical experience is necessary to achieve results. If the weight is tilted to one side, the balance will be lost.
Values
I believe that reading is the best way to share knowledge, condensing the knowledge of those who came before us into its essence and making it accessible to our minds. People often say that you can only gain the most vivid know-how by going out into the field yourself, but just as a child must go through an appropriate preparation process before learning to walk properly, and not everything will be solved by simply throwing them into reality, people also need to train their brains in advance, just as they would do warm-up exercises before jumping into water.
It’s similar to going to a restaurant that serves a full-course meal and preparing yourself by reading a brief introduction of the menu before actually seeing the dishes. The true taste of a dish can only be experienced after it is put in your mouth, but lightly learning about what ingredients were used, how they were cooked, and what the chef’s intention was provides an important foundation for a deeper appreciation of the taste.
Motivation for applying and aspirations after joining the company
It is virtually impossible for a single individual to be aware of and understand all the events that take place and are discussed across the entire globe. Therefore, since childhood, I have admired and wanted to be a part of the media, which collects all kinds of important events and information happening in the world and presents them in a condensed form that people can easily understand. While pursuing my dream of working in the media, I realized that I was more suited to marketing than writing articles, so I changed my career path somewhat. However, my childhood dream of working for a media company has not faded, and I can say with confidence that it still makes my heart beat faster.
I became particularly interested in your company as a result of my efforts to find a media company with similar views and goals to my own after reading many newspapers. I am deeply interested in your company’s activities and would like to work with you, which is why I decided to apply. If I am given the opportunity to work at your company, I will do my best to demonstrate my abilities, and I hope that my efforts will serve as an important foundation for the growth of your company. I will spare no effort in making my dreams a reality.
