Can overseas experience and travel/tourism be used to differentiate yourself in a self-introduction letter?

In this blog post, we will introduce how you can use overseas training and experience to differentiate yourself in a self-introduction letter for travel/tourism.

Background

“The best choice I ever made”
I attended middle school in South Korea and was just an ordinary student living a normal life. Studying, club activities, and hobbies all felt ordinary and boring. At home, my family would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I couldn’t answer. My father, who works as a diplomat, told me to go abroad and become a person with diverse experiences. My father was someone who had the courage to pursue a career as a diplomat even when it was not easy to go abroad.
He often advised me to be courageous and forge my own path in life. However, I had no particular desire to go abroad, nor did I have any special dreams. Then, when I entered high school, I enrolled in a foreign language high school and majored in Chinese, and my thoughts began to change. I had many friends who had studied abroad, and I was worried that if I just prepared for college entrance exams and graduated, I would end up living a very ordinary life. So, instead of preparing for college entrance exams, I decided to study abroad to pioneer a new life. I can say that this decision was the best choice I have ever made in my life.
When people decide to study abroad, they usually think of Europe or the United States, but I decided to go to Northeast Asia. So, I planned to spend two years in Taiwan, two years in Hong Kong, and finally two years in China before returning to Korea after graduating from university. The reason was that I majored in Chinese and wanted to learn more about the language. I wanted to use my Chinese skills to work in international exchange, and I worked hard abroad to achieve that dream. I made sure to improve my English, Chinese, and Taiwanese language skills, and I chose Northeast Asian exchange and trade as my major and studied hard.

Overseas training

“Training experience in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China”
When I first decided to study abroad as a high school student, the first place I arrived was Taiwan. While attending high school in Taiwan, I studied in places where I could use Chinese, and my Chinese skills improved greatly during that time. Getting along with local high school students was a different matter from language skills. We communicated by mixing English, Chinese, and Taiwanese, but the cultural differences could not be ignored. School life was similar to that in Korea, but there were differences in terms of the timetable, study progress, and homework assignments.
Therefore, it was difficult to do everything on my own, and I needed help from my friends. I made friends mainly with people in my class and joined the school band on their recommendation. As a vocalist, I learned Taiwanese songs and sang pop songs, and as my skills improved, I made many friends. As I began to adapt to life there, I graduated from high school and attended university in Hong Kong. At first, I majored in trade, but later I became an exchange student in China. I had decided to spend two years in each country, so I tried to learn as much as possible in a short period of time.
While studying in Hong Kong, I majored in trade, and I went to Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China, to earn credits. While earning the credits I needed, I took various courses in economics, trade, logistics, service, and communication. I took many liberal arts courses to develop the skills necessary for international exchange, and gradually found my path. While in China, I worked part-time as an overseas travel guide and taught Korean at my university. Many people in China want to learn Korean, so I found this work very rewarding.

Life philosophy

“You get what you put in.”
I place a lot of importance on the meaning of “effort.” I don’t think there is any reason to deny someone who is working hard to achieve their goals in any way. When I was learning Chinese, I worked hard to become proficient, and when I was studying for my Chinese language certification, I studied on my own and attended lectures regularly. My efforts and time were proportional to my results, and I did not disappoint myself. As a result, my Chinese improved, which was a great help in my life as an international student. The same was true when I studied trade and logistics. Since I was studying abroad, it was difficult to study a foreign language and my major at the same time.
First of all, there was a lot of studying to do. However, I decided to abandon negative thoughts and do what I could in the time I had. By working on one thing at a time, I was able to get through even large amounts of work, and although I couldn’t achieve big goals all at once, I was able to get closer to my goals little by little. That’s why I made it my motto in life to work hard little by little to achieve my goals. By acting on this philosophy, I was able to achieve meaningful results in everything I did. I was also able to improve my relationships with others and build new ones through my efforts. Even difficult studies became easier as I worked on them, lowering the level of difficulty in my own mind little by little.

Career

“Worked at an air logistics company for five years.”
After studying abroad, I looked for a field where I could apply what I had learned about trade and logistics in China. The company I joined was a logistics company specializing in air logistics. It was a small company with few employees, so it took me a long time to get used to the work. At first, I was in charge of managing business partners and logistics and inventory. Since I was an intern, my work was mostly simple rather than complicated. I mainly checked inventory and placed orders, and in the process, I was also in charge of adjusting shipping dates and managing schedules. I was also responsible for managing the necessary shipping documents.
It was very simple work, but once I started working, the day went by quickly. This was because each task took a lot of time and there was a lot of logistics to check. As I gained experience, the company began to assign me tasks such as human resource management and external vendor management. Even though I was trained by my supervisor, I was stressed because the workload was so heavy. However, I believe that nothing is impossible if you work hard, so I didn’t give up and created my own work manual by writing down each step of the work process. Thanks to my efforts, I was eventually recognized for my professional work and received a bonus.
After retiring from the logistics field, I worked as a temporary employee at an airline. Since I had worked in the aviation logistics field, the work was similar. However, I was assigned to work that was a little more office-based. Comparing the two jobs, I realized that working at a logistics company suited me better than working in an office at an airline. So I dreamed of changing jobs and applied when I saw your career opportunity announcement. Your company is looking for a logistics manager, and I have experience in this field and have also worked for an airline, so I think I will be able to adapt quickly.
