In this blog post, we will share the experiences, practical skills, and points to emphasize in your application for a production management position.
Growth
My father always told me that if I had the perseverance to see things through to the end, I would be successful. My father was a businessman all his life, and although he faced many crises, including three bankruptcies, he worked hard to get back on his feet and eventually achieved results that were recognized by others. My father came to Seoul alone and experienced many different jobs, trying his hand at everything. After learning from the failure of his first business, he tried his hand at a business he had been planning for a long time. However, just as he was on the road to success, another business went bankrupt, and my father also experienced bankruptcy like a domino effect. He then went through another period of hardship to get back on his feet. Once he had rebuilt his foundation to a certain extent, he turned his attention abroad and went overseas. At first, it seemed like he would be successful, but the situation in the foreign country deteriorated rapidly, and he went bankrupt and returned to Korea. Of course, most people would have given up at this point, but my father did not. Repeating that the only thing he knew how to do was business, he eventually made a comeback and this time was very successful. Perhaps because I wanted to be like my father, I grew up never giving up on anything I did and always doing my best to see things through to the end. I can proudly say that I take after my father, who is the embodiment of perseverance.
School days
My school days seem to have been focused on forming relationships with people. In elementary school, I was so busy hanging out with my friends that I never even looked at a book. That was also when your father was successful in business and you were living a comfortable life. And in middle school, I liked spending time with my friends, so I always ate at their houses and didn’t go home until late at night. At that time, my father’s business went bankrupt, so I felt more uncomfortable at home, which is why I did that. However, thanks to that, I was really close with everyone, not only my classmates but also people who didn’t know me at school, to the point that they would call me a spy if I didn’t know them. When I went to high school, I studied a little, but I helped a lot with housework. My mother’s health deteriorated rapidly, and our family’s financial situation fluctuated, so I think I did most of the housework. At first, my mother recovered quickly, but later she became bedridden, so I took care of my younger siblings, studied hard, and took care of the house. Still, I had many friends, so whenever something came up, everyone would help out without hesitation, and I think I had a very fulfilling life mentally. I went on to college and majored in accounting and production management, where I gained a broad and specialized knowledge of business. While studying accounting, I focused on finance, management, and taxation, and learned how to record and manage corporate capital and understand its flow. In addition, while studying production management, I learned about SCM, global sourcing, efficient production management, and quality control, and gained an understanding of various business activities within the value chain, from the development and purchase of raw materials to production, transportation, distribution, sales, and customer management.
Strengths and weaknesses
I believe that the greatest strength of my personality is my perseverance. I had several part-time jobs while attending university, and I think it was through these small jobs that my greatest strength became apparent. What I remember most is when I flew to the United States alone to gain experience and worked as a waiter at a Japanese restaurant. When I first started working, I mistakenly thought that taking orders and serving food was all part of the job, just like in Korea, and I received complaints from customers who were not satisfied with my service. I was struggling to make ends meet, so even though I was in danger of being fired, I begged the boss to forgive me and tried my best not to fail. In a way, it might have been easier to be fired from a job that wasn’t right for me. But I didn’t do that. I hate the word “failure,” and I especially hate failure without effort. So I changed my attitude. I memorized the names and favorite menu items of regular customers to help them order quickly and easily. I also introduced new menu items to pique their interest and make their meals more enjoyable. When it was time to pay, I conducted a customer satisfaction survey to find areas for improvement. As a result, customers paid higher service charges, visited regularly, and brought more people with them to the restaurant.
Work experience (or experience that demonstrates your work abilities)
When I was in college, I took a class called Global Sourcing, where we had to do a group project. The assignment was to choose a company and understand its supply chain. As the team leader, I chose ○○ Electronics and set out to find companies that supply glass, which is a key material for LCD panels. Through this project, I was able to understand the supply chain of the TV industry, from glass purchasing to LCD panel manufacturing, TV assembly, transportation/storage, sales, and customers. I was also able to understand the market structure, which was formed as a monopoly due to ○○Corning’s technological capabilities and patents related to glass manufacturing.
After graduating, I started my career immediately and was assigned to quality control and distribution in production. Currently, as a senior member of a department, I am in charge of employee management and documentation, and I have also made a lot of effort to improve the work quality and productivity of new employees.
Motto and philosophy
Helen Keller once said, “Character cannot be formed in a day or a night, nor in a year or a day. It is the work of a lifetime.”
My role model in life is my father. He has experienced many failures and successes in business. Even now, despite his advanced age, he always strives to find new hope. Perhaps my father will fail again. However, as always, he will get back up, and I will also always get back up when I fall.
Motivation and aspirations
I did an internship in the production management department of a factory during my final year of college. While learning basic tasks and step-by-step procedures, I became fascinated by the profession of management. After completing the internship, I realized that I needed to obtain qualifications in areas where I was lacking as a manager. I worked hard even after I started working at the factory, and recently obtained MOS certification to improve my computer skills so that I can perform my managerial duties without any problems. There was nothing that I felt I lacked in my work. I believe that I am well prepared to apply for a position at your company, and I have decided to apply for the production management department.
If I am assigned to the production management department, I will do my best to fulfill the tasks assigned to me with the mindset of a beginner. As I gain experience and become able to work independently, I would like to study ways to reduce costs and shorten production time for more efficient production.
