In this blog post, we will introduce specific ways to highlight problem-solving skills, collaboration skills, and growth potential, which are highly valued by IT companies, in your cover letter.
Growth
I grew up with my parents teaching me to become a person who can pioneer my own future. Through this process, I was able to develop the habit of thinking and making decisions on my own rather than relying on my parents. For me, pocket money was not just money I received from my parents, but the reward for my work. I was able to earn pocket money by helping with housework and running errands. As someone who had never received “free money,” I sometimes felt that my parents were making promises, but I think it was their wisdom to teach me the value of work. Thanks to this upbringing, I have never wasted money and have been able to live a frugal life. I also think that I have been able to take responsibility for the choices I make and the things I pursue.
School days
I like working in groups. I feel joy when we internalize a common goal and work together to achieve it, and the thrill of accomplishment is many times greater than when I achieve a goal alone. In high school, I worked as a broadcaster. I had always been told that I had a nice voice, so I was confident and applied right away. However, contrary to what I had expected, broadcasting was not always fun. The rules between seniors and juniors were strict, and it was difficult to come up with ideas for broadcasts within the allotted time. However, I didn’t want to give up on something I had decided to do, so I tried my best to adapt to life at the station. When I became the leader of the broadcasting club in my second year, my top priority was the relationship between seniors and juniors. This was because I believed that broadcasting is a creative activity where it is important to generate ideas, and that it is difficult to do so in a rigid relationship. Some of my second-year friends said that we should do things the same way we had been treated, but I persuaded them step by step. I told them that there was no point in making relationships rigid and that we had to take the lead in changing this bureaucratic culture. Through this process, I learned how to clearly convey my opinions to others. I also learned that conflict resolution begins with understanding and accepting each other’s differences. With this leadership attitude, I was able to successfully lead the broadcasting club that year.
Strengths and weaknesses
I am highly adaptable to new environments and have the ability to respond flexibly when problems arise. I believe these qualities have greatly helped me in my role as a leader. In team project classes at university, I worked hard to boost the morale of my teammates and build strong bonds between us. In many cases, the team members had different majors, and sometimes there were differences in perspective on how to approach a topic depending on their majors. In order to narrow the gap between different opinions, I tried to find a compromise between the two sides and even suggested a third alternative, which enabled the team to successfully complete the project. I am sometimes criticized for lacking expressiveness. I have often been told that my emotions are not visible on my face, making it difficult to read my feelings, but I do not think this is a major disadvantage in my work. I believe that when performing work, it is important to know how to hide your emotions rather than reveal them. However, I realize that I may appear unemotional because I do not laugh or talk loudly in private. Therefore, I am making an effort to listen to my emotions.
Motivation for applying and aspirations
I believe that joining your company will open up new paths for me. With little social experience, I am still a rough gemstone. Depending on who polishes me, I could become a diamond, or I could remain a mere pebble. If I am able to unleash my passion at your company, I am confident that I can grow into a diamond and become a valuable asset to your company. I understand that your company is not only the best in Korea, but also a global company. I believe that your excellent working environment and employee benefits motivate your employees to work hard. As a person with unlimited growth potential, I will work hard to become an excellent employee of your company through continuous self-development.
